WAGGA CITY GOLF CLUB

It was St Patrick's Day last Tuesday, and as would be expected, the ladies got right into the spirit of things.

Green was the theme as the girls dressed up for their Pynehurst Foursomes event as part of their 2020 Opening Day celebrations.

In the fashion stakes, Jenny Myers beat a hot field home to pick up the best-dressed award for the day, while on the golfing front, scratch honours in Division 1 went to the formidable team of Janelle Doust and Maureen Foley with a solid round of 84 off the stick, one shot clear of runners-up Maria McManus and Sandra Metcalf.

Handicap winners in Division 1 were Lorraine Hickey and Cassie Gill with a nett score of 75 3/8, while second place went to Jenny Hazell and Jan Marks with 76 5/8.

In Division 2, Marg Bradley and Doreen Hazell had a score of 85 for a solid win in the scratch event, three shots clear of Pam Kellam and Jenny Myers, 88, while Marg Hogan and Therese Quinn netted 74 7/8 to take out the handicap event from Janine Fitzgerald and Sally Davidson, 77 7/8.

NTPs to Kath Walker, Pam Kellam, Marg Hogan and Carol Martin. Ball comp to 79 1/2 on a countback.

In vets news, Charlie Down enjoyed a great round of golf in last Monday's nine-hole vets comp, scoring 32 nett for a clear win from Ray Gladman and Bill O'Rourke 35 nett. Peter Briggs, Bert Adams and Bob Alexander followed with 36 nett, from Don Kirwan and Denis Adams, each with 37 nett.

In Thursday's comp, Ron Culgan scored 33 nett to get home from Denis Adams, 35, Tony Brunskill, 36, and Charlie Down, Grahame Winson and Tony Thompson, each with 37 nett.

There was just the one grade for last Wednesday's Members Stableford event, and it was Ross Hollis' turn to take the honours, scoring 40 points for a win, from Grahame Winson, 39, and Mick Laurent and Barry Miller, each with 36 nett. NTP vouchers were collected by Max Horsnell, Ray Harrison and Bob Alexander, while the ball comp went to 33 points.

There were some hot scores in Saturday's Members Monthly Medal Stroke event. Once again, there was only the one grade. Steve Purcell played his best round of golf for some time, scoring 65 nett for a close win, from Rod Porter, 66 nett. They were followed by Bruce Masters, 68 nett, on a countback from John Hazell, while the last two vouchers went to Tim Crowley, 69 nett, on a countback from Ray Barnett. NTPs to Ray Bell, Mike Laurent and John Hazell. Ball comp to 73 nett on a countback.

The Business Girls also competed for their March Monthly Medal on Saturday, with Pam Kellam shooting away from the field with a score of 70 nett, five clear of runner-up, Kim Gilmore, 75 nett. Pam finished off a good day by adding the NTP prize on the par three 18th to her winnings.
