ULYSSES CLUB
Well, what a schemozzle last week's ride turned out to be.
Des, Les, Don, Gino, Warwick Fromtaree, George Fromtemora, Terry K, and Mark all rode out to Mangoplah and turned right at Cookardinia toward Morven, finally landing at Culcairn.
And it was from this point on that things became a little scrambled - the intention was to end up at Rutherglen for lunch with the track to take them through Corowa. However, when they got to Rutherglen the bunch of eight had thinned out to five, with Des and Gino going off on to Yackandandah to catch up with one of Des's mates.
Gino went along to help him get back on his Spyder if he fell off (again). Warwick Fromtaree had stopped at Corowa to top up his jam-tin fuel tank with which he has experienced problems in the past, and he finally caught up with the main bunch at the Victoria Hotel in Rutherglen, for lunch.
After lunch, George Fromtemora and Warwick Fromtaree were concerned that they may not be able to find the way back to Wagga so Mark said "follow me" and led the way with George and Warwick in tow. Meanwhile Don and Les went over to Howlong and then on to Albury to catch up with yours truly who travelled down on the train to pick up a bike. But when they got to the railway station at 3.10pm it was discovered the train was still on the way, so they rode home.
I eventually arrived in Albury, picked up the bike assigned to me and went up the Olympic way toward home, stopping at Culcairn on the way for a breather.
And guess who was there saddling up after a visit to the "how's ya father" - Des and Gino. It was 5pm, so they had travelled half way around Victoria before they had discovered the back track back to home.
What a day ... but lots of fun in the sun.
There were not a lot at the Commercial Club for meet and greet on Saturday, but it was a pleasant morning all the same.
A few left there and went out to the Uranquinty Bakery where the Griffith mob had stopped off for lunch. I couldn't go, I was on grandparent duty.
Sunday was not an official ride day, but I got my trusty steed out of the stable and went for a ride around the block on my own. Blinking big block, I did 186km.
Our next ride day will be on Sunday, March 1 leaving McDonald's Edward Street car park at 9am. Be there, all fuelled up at 8.30am, and find out where the ride will take you.
And remember the Wednesday rides that leave from the Busy Bean Café at 35 Gurwood Street every week at 9am. The destination is decided on the day over a hot coffee.
The Lismore Rally is only nine weeks away so you had better get yourself sorted if you intend going along to enjoy a week of frivolity.
If you have any questions, please contact the 2020 National Rally Secretary, Colleen Gaudron by email to 2020ucnrsecretary@gmail.com
Enjoy your ride in this perfect weather we are experiencing, see you on the road.
