ULYSSES CLUB
Eleven riders rolled up for a coffee and chat on Wednesday of last week but only five mounted up. The people who didn't venture out don't know what they missed out on - it was a beautiful day and the roads were all in good condition. Pat, Noel, Len, Ian and Gino left the coffee shop about 9.10am and rode over to Gundagai by way of Wantabadgery and Nangus, stopping at Gundagai for ablutions.
From there it was planned to go to Brungle and then up to Tumut, but when we got to the old wooden bridge just before the Brungle turn off my Honda Varadero decided to have an engine malfunction. After several attempts to get it motivated again I gave it a slug of full choke and it fired up, albeit a bit hesitantly. After a little coaxing, swearing and praying it finally decided to behave and we continued on but took the Gocup road instead. We stopped at the bakery in Tumut and had a feed and drink and at this point Len returned back to Wagga to attend to some other matters. After devouring some food and drink the rest of us continued on up to Batlow to take in the effects of the bushfires. It was amazing to see where the fires had destroyed property and skipped over some areas completely untouched. But the bits that were not untouched were a devastating scene.
We continued on over to Tumbarumba where we fuelled up. The destruction there was just as bad but the firies have to be given a lot of credit for saving much of the townships. The next stop was Rosewood and we paid the local store a visit for a cold drink. Refreshed, we then continued on our way home through Humula and Tarcutta. Noel refuelled at Tarcutta and we all continued on down Mates Gully Road to Borambola and home. It was just starting to get a bit warm when we hit home soil, but all in all the day was near perfect. Not many turned up for meet and greet at the Commercial Club on Saturday morning and I believe that many had gone away for the weekend. No rides had been organised for the weekend, but with near perfect weather I am sure a few would have got their bikes out for a squirt. Our next scheduled ride is set down for Sunday, February 2. At this stage the ride has not been planned, but we will have something sorted so just turn up to the McDonald's Edward Street car park by 8.30am, with a full tank of fuel, and we will hit the road to somewhere at 9am.
The 2020 National Rally is looming and you can register now. Registration to attend will be open up till the rally opens on May 4.
For more details, visit agm2020.ulyssesclub.org or log onto the main website www.ulysses.org.au and follow the links. Most importantly, you must order your rally merchandise by February 12 otherwise you will miss out.
