Suspended police officer Neil Glen Punchard received a wholly suspended two-month jail sentence after pleading guilty to nine counts of computer hacking on Monday.

The woman lived in fear after Punchard shared her information to her former partner over a year-long period in 2013.

She told Brisbane Magistrates Court it was a "vile misuse and abuse of power" which left her feeling "endlessly threatened and vulnerable".

"I cannot comprehend how a person in such a trusted job could do such a horrible thing and think it would be without consequence," she said.

Punchard - who is suspended on administrative duties after his powers of office were removed - was cleared by two police investigations before the Crime and Corruption Commission overturned those decisions.

He pleaded guilty to the offences after last month failing in a bid to have the charges thrown out on a technicality.

On Monday the court heard Punchard, who has a distinguished career in traffic policing, faces the prospect of losing his job.

Police Minister Mark Ryan said on Tuesday there should be consequences for "police who do not live up to the standard expected of them".

"Like many members of the community, I think there should be consequences for Mr Punchard for his actions," Mr Ryan said.

Mr Ryan says he has been advised the Police Commissioner is seeking further legal advice in relation to the offending.

Police Commissioner Katarina Carroll says she will bide her time and not comment on Punchard's future until the deadline for him to appeal his sentence has passed.

"This is a very serious matter and one that I am taking the time to consider carefully with respect to process and legal implications," she said.
