Alex Ross Gill faced Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday over the crash that killed Chad Gill, who is reported to be his cousin.
He's accused of causing death by dangerous driving over the collision involving two boats in February about 10km upstream from Swan Reach.
Defence counsel Michael Woods said the first accident reconstruction report was the "worst I've seen in 30 years".
A second report has been ordered. Gill has been remanded on continuing bail to answer the charge on January 14.
