In Division 1, Lyn Donohoe took the main prize with a score of 68 nett, a shot clear of consistent low-marker Janelle Doust, 69 nett. Trish Gray also played well to collect the Division 2 voucher with a solid score of 65 nett; Vi Gardner claimed second spot with 66 nett. Sandra Mellen posted the best score of the day, running hot for a terrific round of 63 nett and a clear win from runner-up Jan Leonard, 67 nett, while the NTP went to Fay Baker.
The women returned for a three-person ambrose on Friday. The formidable team of Monica Kember, Dee Harley and Pam Seymour proved to be too strong, scoring 54 nett for a win from Lyn Donohoe, Maria McManus and Marg Gregurke, 55 2/3 nett, on a countback from Trish Gray, Ann Leonard and Cae Cobby, also on a countback.
Bill O'Rourke took the vets' main prize last Monday, scoring 28 nett for a one-shot win from Peter McDonald. Tony Brunskill, Terry Baker, Phil Powell and Eddie Wall followed with 32 nett, then Grahame Winson, Jim Briggs and John Burkinshaw, each with 33 nett. Tuesday's six-hour working bee did nothing to slow down Russell Parr, who fired up in Thursday's event with a score of 26 nett and a countback win from Les Hodges. Ron Culgan scored 27 nett for third spot, followed by Peter Kirkman, Bert Adams and Eddie Wall 29 nett, and Charlie Down and Bill O'Rourke on 30 nett. The old boys returned to put in some more work around the new greens on Thursday afternoon, and yet another full day of heavy lifting on Friday. Clearly, the spirit within the club is alive and well.
One of our club's steadiest golfers, Bob Alexander, collected the A Grade voucher in Wednesday's members' stableford with 43 points from another in-form vet John Parker (40). While Bob and John are consistently in the hunt for a prize, the undisputed master of the shortened course and temporary greens has to be Eddie Wall, who picked up yet another major prize when he scored 43 points to take out the B Grade event, one clear of Owen Guthrie, 42. Ray Harrison, Steve Hall and Grahame Winson collected the NTP vouchers, while the ball comp went to 38.
Members competed in a stableford event on Saturday. In A Grade, John Burkinshaw scored 41 points for a win from John Dare, 40. John Parker kept his recent good streak going, totaling 45 points for a win in B Grade from Col Smith, 42. Darryl Dickinson also scored 42 on his way to picking up the C Grade voucher on a countback from Barry Miller. NTPs to Trevor Garside, John McLeod and Eddie Wall. Ball comp to 38 on a c/b.
Tim's 18-hole Sunday stableford rounded out the week, with Garry Rake scoring 42 points for a countback win from Barry Miller, a point clear of Dave Weeden, followed by Lex Boardman and Steve Rodham, each with 39.

ULYSSES CLUB
Six adventurers left Bean Central at about 9.10am last Wednesday and headed down, driving through Howlong, Chiltern, Rutherglen and stopping off at Beechworth for lunch. Beechworth was a bit of shemozzle with the main drag being dug up for maintenance and two of the local pubs closed for the day. However, the crew found a lunch spot and after topping the tummies followed the white lines back up the Hume to Albury.
One of our more senior members snuck off during the week and purchased himself a beautiful, rich red Indian Chief motorcycle with all the bells and whistles. The bike was quite cheap but all the bells and whistles cost and arm and a leg.
Saturday's meet and greet was well attended at the Bean Counter and it was very pleasant sitting outside in the sun tossing down a nice cup of coffee and washing down a muffin of two. One of the regulars, Dianne Middleton was off around the state on her push bike raising funds for cancer research through The Great Cycle Challenge She had to do 50km during the week. I reckon it would have been a lot easier on a motorcycle.
Sunday was a bit disappointing with only three turning up for the Branch Sunday ride led by Mark Williams. However they all had an enjoyable day out in a day of four seasons, stopping first at the Dog on the Tuckerbox, then Coolac, Jugiong and Harden where they visited the museum before heading off to Wombat for lunch at the pub there. After lunch, they came straight home through Cootamundra racking up 350km for the day.
In pristine weather quite a lot of activity was on offer, last Sunday, with a rally being held by the Mini Car Club, the fire engine display at Coolamon and Wagga Classic Motorcycle Club also had a ride. This coming weekend the Classic Motorcycle Club is running a rally over both Saturday and Sunday. Look up their website for further details: www.waggaclassicmc.org
Well, now we are moving well into spring. Some of us ride all year around, some like to put their bikes away over winter. Which ever category you fall into, it is probable riding time will increase over the warmer months.
We need to consider our trusty steed which has been stored in the garage over the colder months and ourselves.
Motorcycle: 1. How fresh is the fuel? Did you put in a stabiliser? Petrol does deteriorate over time so it is not as combustible as it was when we put it in the tank. Check inside the fuel tank looking for rust or condensation. Get some fresh fuel to liven up the old stuff.
2. Batteries. Batteries can only handle a few drains before they can become problematic. If you have a voltmeter you should be getting at least 13 volts at the terminals. Check connections and cables. I will not get too technical, but it is relatively easy to clean corroded terminals and protect them. I would highly recommend a smart charger that maintains battery condition over time. I now get a minimum of 5 -6 years out of each battery, where I used to replace them about every 18 months.
3. Tyres. Make sure you check pressures when the tyre is cold. At the same time check the condition of the rubber/tread for cracks and other issues. There should be caps fitted over the valves. Replace if any doubt exists.
