In the new format it was Group Nine who came from behind to win at Nixon Park on Saturday.
Coach Andrew Hinchcliffe was impressed with how the side came together.
"It was great," Hinchcliffe said. "They played super and people were really excited being the first Kelly Cup game in ladies tackle.
"The girls were pretty committed considering the short prep and played really well in the awful conditions."
There was plenty of young talent in the side, plus some in their first game of tackle, but they meshed well in poor conditions.
Young's Chloe Muggleton made a real impact off the bench while Southcity's Bailey Porter had a strong influence in the halves.
It was a clean sweep for Group Nine with the under 18s holding on for a six-point win while the under 23s were dominant.
