ULYSSES
The last couple of weeks have been pretty much non events.
On the 10th, five riders took off from Billy's Bean at the prescribed time of around 9:30am, headed for places like Temora, Coolamon and Cootamundra and promptly all got split up into groups of two. In other words, they all managed to get lost.
They all had lunch somewhere and slunk off home in the afternoon wondering where each and every one had got to. How a small group of five can get lost is beyond me, but I feel age may have played a small part.
The weather was so lousy on the 17th that no-one was prepared to have a go, so coffee was the order of the day.
Saturday Meet and Greet sessions have been a bit on the light side and that I believe has a lot to do with Antarctic temperatures.
On Sunday, only three members braved the sunshine and mild temperature for our ride. We departed the usual start point at 9.30am and rode to Coolamon for coffee via Collingullie, Currawarna and Brushwood. When it was time to continue riding, we decided to lunch at Tumut.
Riding through the countryside via Junee, Eurongilly, Nangus, Gundagai and Gocup, we arrived at Tumut to have our pies in the sky.
The return trip was along the Snowy Mountains, Hume and Sturt Highways parting company at Alfredtown.
The next events to come up will be the Morundah ride on August 18, Tallangatta on the 4th and the Tri Branch weekend on September 6, 7 and 8.
The Morundah ride was originally set for August 4 but had to be changed to the 18th due to hotel availability.
As usual rides leave McDonald's car park in Edward Street at 9.30am. Wednesday rides leave the Busy Bean at 35 Gurwood Street (Billy's) at 9.30am.
Ride well, ride safe and ride to enjoy.
Members will know that Rick Bedford, 7481, Life Member 12 has ridden on. Rick passed away with his family at his side on Saturday, June 22. I am sure you all share with the national committee in expressing our condolences to Sherol Bedford and her family after the passing of former national president and life member.
Rick joined the Ulysses Club on August 23, 1994 and was very active member. He was first elected to the national committee in 1998 to 1999, served as vice-president from 1999 to 2002 and served again as president from 2002 to 2006. Rick was made a life member of the Ulysses Club in honour of his exemplary service. The award was presented to Rick at the AGM in 2008 in Townsville.
Rick fought a very courageous battle against oesophageal cancer, remaining a positive, thoughtful man until the end. A former policeman, a published author, a great ambassador for the Ulysses club and a good friend to all who knew him, Rick leaves behind a great legacy and will be remembered for many reasons, including being the president who made tough decisions at the Canberra AGM to ensure the safety of all Ulyssians, but also as the gentleman who had the forethought to realise that the RV component of the Ulysses Club was vital to its older population.
For further information on the Ulysses Club phone Mary on 0413 586 196 or you may contact the National Office on 1300 134 123.
