A SMALLER crew at Lockhart on Saturday. The colder weather may have kept a few away and others had had a big weekend at Ungarie last weekend. In the morning John Dixon did a great job pruning some of the trees with branches coming into the firing line. Thanks John. Riverina DRA Champion of Champions and Prizemeeting at Cootamundra: Next Saturday is the Riverina Champion of Champion Matches at Cootamundra. There will be no shoot at Lockhart. If you can come along to help score etc that will be great plus there is a sweepstakes in the afternoon at 800 and 900 Yards for all. On Sunday is the Centenary Riverina DRA Prize Shoot with the Jubilee Trophy presented at the Golden Anniversary in 1969 up for grabs. We will be using Electronic Targets both Days with six targets in operation.

LOCKHART RESULTS: The shoot on Saturday was at 900 Yards and as usual the Lockhart wind demons were at work changing wind direction rights and left. This was a monthly trophy shoot and Ben Goodwin got the best of it with a very good first stage. Though he did have trouble with one round not chambering. BLUSTERY conditions did not deter the players in the final of the Major Pairs Championship on Saturday which saw precision draw bowls ans accurate on shots from the four players. Gary Brookes and Dennis Rawlings got away to lead 8 to 3 after six ends. Pedro Rudd and John Hetherington tied the match up at 10 all on 11 ends. Brookes and Rawlings again applied the pressure to lead 16 shots to 10 after 14 ends as Rudd and Hetherington rallied to take control of the match to lead 18 to 16 on the 20 the end. The final end saw Rawlings draw two shots 18 inches behind the Jack and with the last bowl of the match Brookes drew to within three inches of the Jack to claim the title 19 to 18

In the semi finals Brookes def Bill Bishop and Peter Thornton 23/20 and Rudd def Glen Fahey annd Noel O'Brien 22/15. The Rules hosted 32 Travelling Bowlers from the the ACT on Tuesday with 10 games of Triples played. Winners were Helen Halliday, John Stout, Ron Hawke with 23; 2nd Wayne Smithers, Vince -Coffey, Terry Jarvie 22; 3rd Jim Davis, Ron Canning, Michelle Henderson 21; 4th Anne Purcell, Sue Jarvie, Jeff McCaskill 20 ; 5th Alice Bower, Jeff Post, Greg Haron 19.

IT HAS been a quiet week with very little activity taking place on the motorcycle scene. Last Wednesday was very miserable with about 12 turning up to Billy's for a ride but no one was game enough to take the plunge, so it was coffee and lots of well informed talk. Because the last week has virtually been a non-event I have included a little history about our unique club.

The Ulysses Club was formed for motorcyclists aged 40 years and older at the instigation of Stephen Dearnley in Sydney, Australia in December 1983 in reply to a letter in the now defunct Bike Australia magazine, the editor being Peter "The Bear" Thoeming. The name Ulysses Club was the idea of Rob Hall, while the club's motto of "Grow Old Disgracefully" was devised by his then-girlfriend Pat Lynch. Peter "The Bear" Thoeming sketched the "old man" logo that is still used by the club in its original hand-sketched form. The inaugural meeting of the club was held in Sydney on December 6 1983 when the five people present approved a draft constitution and the Ulysses Club was duly formed.

At that initial meeting the five founding members became an interim management committee, until two months later, on 7 February 1984, 11 of the club's total membership of 25 members attended the club's first annual general meeting, formally electing the very first National Committee and adopting the club's constitution.

The name comes from the story Ulysses by Alfred, Lord Tennyson. It tells how the great Greek hero Ulysses, now middle-aged and securely in charge of his kingdom of Ithaca, is getting bored with things around him and longs to go adventuring again with his shipmates of old.

Up and coming events for this month are the ride scheduled for this coming Sunday (19) and the May branch meeting to be held next Tuesday (21). I am not sure where the Sunday ride will lead to, just turn up at McDonalds Edward Street car park at about 8.30am and all will be revealed. Just a reminder that when you turn up for a ride make sure your tank is nice and full. And the Wednesday rides take off from Billy's Bean at 9am weather permitting.

SIXTY-EIGHT children participated in the 2019 Riverina Schools Orienteering Day conducted on Willans Hill last Thursday. Primary and secondary schools from Cootamundra, Ladysmith, Wagga, Yanco, Henty and Walla Walla were represented. Many were experiencing orienteering for the first time.

The day commenced with a 500m Map Walk in which all participants were provided with some basic information about how the different features and about how to navigate. This was followed by the individual races and then a relay. Starting from the Music Bowl in the Botanic Gardens the courses initially went east and zig-zagged across the western slope of Willans Hill eventually finishing from the south through the more open areas. Cootamundra Public School dominated the 1.0 km Boys 10-11 class. Alex Brown competed very well to win by just over a minute from school mate Austin Franklin. Cootamundra also dominated the 1.3 km Boys 12-13 age-class in which Oscar Philp managed to hold off a fast finishing Riley Hartshorn for a 52 second victory.

In the 1.0km Girls 10-12 age-group Ladysmith Public School dominated. Zoe Willis absolutely blitzed the field winning by almost 11 minutes and finishing in half the time taken by runner up Indiana Cole. Charlotte Priest recorded an equally impressive time winning the 1.0 km G12-13 class. She finished 21/2 minutes ahead of TRAC's Freya Matthews with Wagga High School's Layla Byrnes in third place. It was much closer in the 1.3 km G14-15 age-class. Wagga High School managed a trifecta with Emily Livio just holding off school mates Sophie Ramage and Mackenzie Williams.

Logan Butler ( Wagga High School) won the 1.6 km B14-15 age-class in good style from Henry Cook (Mater Dei Catholic College) and Harry Bunt (Yanco Agricultural High School). The 1.6 km G16+ class saw the tightest margin of the day. Jo McDougall (Wagga High School) just held off school mate Lily Stein by a narrow 20 seconds. Dekota Jones (Wagga High School) came third but was just a mere 17 seconds further back and Hayley Hutchinson was just 10 seconds in arrears in fourth place.

The B16+ class was also a tight competition. Jack Janetzki (St Pauls College, Walla Walla) eventually prevailed by just 42 seconds over Wagga High School's Cameron McDougall . Kobe Priest (Mater Dei) finished third but was 9 minutes off the hot pace set by the leaders.

The relay proved to be a hotly contested affair although the prevalence of control flags in the area confused some and a number of teams mispunched. Wagga High School Team 1 (Jack Hutchinson, Willis Gray, and Cameron McDougall) had a narrow 9 second victory from a composite team of (Freya Matthews, TRAC; Tom Janetzki, Lutheran Primary, Henty; and Jack Janetzki, St Pauls, Walla). The all-girl Wagga High School Team 2 ( Dekota Jones, Lily Stein, and Maycy Scott) surprised many of the boys teams with a very good third place just 3 minutes off the pace. Yanco Agricultural High School finished fourth.

WaggaRoos also conducted a Mother's Day Sprint Orienteering event at the Victory Memorial Gardens. Mother of two Briohny Seaman slipped around the 1500m "Mothers & Others Course" in a quick 12.04 finishing 21/2 minutes ahead of husband Trent. Alex Davey was third. Fresh from her second places in the individual and relay races at the Schools Orienteering Day, Freya Matthews backed up to win the 600m "Mother's Meander" course with sister Phoebe. Ryder and Logan Seaman came second.

Next event will be Interclub #3 against Albury on Sunday, May 26 at Walbundrie. The next local event will be on Sunday, June 2 at Willans Hill.

THE Vets played a nine-hole two-person ambrose event last Monday, when the formidable team of John Burkinshaw and Clarrie Ridley took charge with a nett score of 32.5 for a good win from playing partners, Eddie Wall and Warren Lynch, 34.25. Phil Powell and John Hazell claimed third with 34.5, on a c/b from Kerry Smith and Alan French. Vouchers to 34.75.

The ladies competed in their May Monthly Medal on Tuesday, and Maria McManus had a day to remember, scoring 71 to win the Div 1 medal, Div 1 Putting Comp and NTP voucher. Colleen Mavroudis found her way back into the winners' circle when she scored 72 to claim the Div 2 medal. Scratch winners on the day were Dee Harley with 96 (Div 1); Linda Coombes, 98 (Div 2), and Fay Baker, 104 (Div 3). Jenny Myers collected the Div 1 handicap voucher with 73, while the Div 2 and Div 3 vouchers went to Carmel Pearce, 76, and Pat Grieve, 74. Ball comp to 82 on a c/b.

Members lined up for their mid-week stableford comp on Wednesday, and in A Grade, big-hitting Brian Smith collected the cash when he got it all together, scoring 42 (despite two wipes) for an easy win from Jim Briggs, 37, and Kyle Harrison, 36. In B Grade, Peter Lyons played to his handicap with 36 and a c/b win from Darryl Dickinson, with third place going to Bruce Yeatman with 34. NTP's to Kyle Harrison, Roman Adamcewicz and Brian Smith. Ball comp to 33 on a c/b.

Mick Hazell, put together another solid round of golf to take the A Grade prize in Saturday's members' stableford. Mick's 37 was too good for Roman Adamcewicz, 36 on a c/b from Jeremy Whalan. In B Grade, Ray Harrison score 39 to get home on a c/b from Robert Webb, followed by Geoff Asgill. Ray Barnett lit up the course with 41 to clear away in C Grade. NTP's to Clarrie Ridley, Andy White and Bill Whalan. Ball comp to 34 on a c/b.
