A few of our members went to the NSW Match Rifle and Long Range F Class State Championships which were held over the weekend at Ungarie.

The championships are shot over 1000, 1100 and 1200 Yards. Congratulations to all our Explorer members who competed.

Saturday 800 Yards Lockhart

Back at Lockhart on Saturday there was only four of us so a quick shoot. The wind was still playing its games but mostly coming from the left for around 2-3 points. But every now and then switching to come from the right with dire consequences if missed! Kevin Paton came out to shoot a stage and test his squashed trigger finger out certainly black and bruised Kevin!

Tennis continues today in the Wednesday Junior Doubles Tennis Competition at the Bolton Park Tennis Complex.

The competition is open to all players that are able to serve. To enter turn up at the courts before the start time of 4pm finish at 6pm sharp. Sportsmans Warehouse giftcards awarded at the end of the competition for those players playing five matches as well as a Best and Fairest award.

Leading the competition is Isaac Schiller on 58 points followed by Robert Grantham on 531/2 points then Alastair Wright on 53 points with Michael Paolucci-Ellis on 48 points and Caden Maxwell on 41 points making up the top five placings.

Winners of the McDonalds Sports Awards this week were Alastair Wright and Kelsey Atkinson.

THE Business Girls played their postponed 2018 Foursomes Championships over the last weekend in April.

Saturday's honours went to the team of Pam Kellam and Lazetta Gaffney, from Cheryl McKee and Kerry Celegon. Janelle Doust and Maureen Foley claimed the win on Sunday, with second place going to Jenny Myers and Doreen Hazell.

In Vets news, John Burkinshaw scored 34 nett to win last Monday's nine-hole stroke event, a shot clear of Grahame Winson, Tony Thompson and Keith Withers. Vouchers to 36 nett.

Thursday's comp went to Les Hodges, who carded 34 nett, from Grahame Winson 35, and Dave Sutton 36.

Vouchers to 38 nett on a countback.

The ladies played a stroke event last Tuesday, and in Div 1, Marg Hogan scored 71 nett for a countback win from Janelle Doust.

In Div 2, Linda Coombes also got home on a countback, scoring 74 nett, to beat Pam Seymour.

It was more cut-and-dried in Div 3, with Val Brunskill playing great golf to score 70 nett for a nine-shot win from Pat Grieve, 79 nett. NTP's to Dee Harley (Div 1), Pam Seymour (Div 2) and Sandra Mellen (Div 3).

Ball comp to 79 nett countback.

Clarrie Ridley did it again last Wednesday, defying the pouring rain on his way to scoring 38 stableford pts for a win in the A Grade event, from Peter Conlin, 37 pts on a countback from Trevor Garside.

In B Grade, John McLeod scored 37 pts to get the better of Darryl Dickinson, also on a c/b, while Rex Kember took third spot with 36 pts. NTP's to Bob McKenzie and Andy White.

Ball comp to 35 pts on a countback.

Sydney visitor, Ryan Laurent, showed the locals how it was done, when he scored 40 points to secure a win in A Grade in Saturday's members' stableford event, three points clear of Craig Jeffries 37, with Peter Conlin third with 36 pts.

In B Grade, Jim Neiberding carded 38 points for a win from Ray Harrison 37 points, on a countback from Geoff Asgill.

Dave McCrea also fired up for 40 points for a win in C Grade, from Peter Fulmer 38, and Peter Austin 36 points. NTP's to Kyle Harrison, Kevin Rafter and Richard Flanigan. Ball Comp to 34 points on countback.

Tim Barlow's nine-hole Sunday Stableford comp finished off the week, with Ken McPherson scoring 20 points to win on a countback from Kylie Baker and Darren Johnston, followed by Andy White, new member, Brendan Eady and Dave Weeden, 19 points, then another new member, Tracey Peeck, 18 points on a countback.

RAIN threatened last week and I didn't think we would have any starters but three brave cowboys and one Annie Oakley took off at about 9.15am, heading for Holbrook where they tucked into a snack and coffee at the Submarine Café.

After much ado about nothing they saddled up and motored up the highway in the direction of Tarcutta but never quite made the sleepy village because much needed rain came down upon them, so they peeled off at Kyeamba and went straight back to home camp before becoming drenched.

A short ride but nevertheless enjoyable.

Saturday morning saw a large gathering at Billy's for Meet and Greet and it was the new proprietors who got the greet, run off their feet keeping our lot happy.

I am sure they will get the hang of it as time goes by when they get that coffee machine into top gear.

It was all very pleasant and even Princess was happy with the beverage. He is a coffee tragic.

Sunday saw four lined up at McDonalds for the Sunday ride to somewhere which turned out to be Bethungra after taking a tour through Marrar.

It must be pointed out that Woody had come over from Temora to join the ride, arriving at 9.05am, and if it had not been for Ian wanting to have a last minute fag he would still be there waiting.

It so happens that we are on time sometimes, but not often.

Anyway they ended up on Murrulebale Road which passes Murrulebale Hill out Marrar way and ended up in Bethungra where they caught up with Garry and Gayleen Crabtree, who run The Old School Café there.

And while there they also caught up with Ed Hamilton, his mate Elvis and their wives who had come over from Cootamundra for a spot of nourishment.

Ed used to attend the Wagga rides and meetings until such time a Branch was formed in Cootamundra a few years back. Getting back to our Sunday riders, they rode over to Wantabadgery through Eurongilly and then came back home to Wagga through Oura just in time for a late lunch.

That's the activities for the last couple of weeks and up and coming there will be another Sunday ride on the 19th of this month followed by our next branch meeting on Tuesday, May 21.

Branch meetings are held in The Radio Club Rooms at number 7 Small Street, which is an extension of Forsyth Street on the Eastern end. The doors open at 7pm and the meetings generally get under way at 7.30pm and provided no one has any contentious issues she is all over rover by about 8.15pm and we can get on with supper and raffles etc. And don't forget each and every Wednesday a ride departs from Billy's Café, in Gurwood Street, at 9am. Destinations for Wednesday rides are decided on the day in question.
