In the final, team O'Brien got away to an early lead and took control of the match to lead 15/6 after 13 ends and went on to claim the title, 21/12, over team Fitzgerald. Wednesday Blind Draw Triples saw Jeff Post, Bob Linnett, Steve Brown take out the winner’s prize with 24 points. Second place, Max Simmons, Jack Cousley, Jim Davis, 22 points; 3rd place Bernie Benson, Rod Roy, Pat O'Halloran on 21 points. Friday Nominated Pairs winners: Rod Cramp, Wayne Smithers, 24 points; runners-up Bernie Benson, Jim Sloan, 23 points.

Sunday Mixed blind draw winners: Kay McMillan, Owen Cotterill, Sharon Connors, 19 points; runners-up Bob Connors, Bev Robinson, Elaine Larkins, 17 points. Nominations for the 2019 Minor Singles Championship close February 25, with the 1st round to be played March 10.

An exciting two weeks in shooting at the World Championships for Full Bore Target Rifle held in Wellington in NZ. Four years ago it was Ben Emms from Lyndhurst NSW who became World Champion. This time it was an Australian again with Steve Negus from Canberra taking out the crown by one point from young Mitch Bailey from Sydney.  Australia was dominant across all the competitions testament to the training, commitment and skill of the team. 

LOCKHART

Thanks to all those that helped at the working bee on Saturday morning. Rob, John and Dave for removing the tyres around our trees. Paul for bringing the new carpet over for John. And John, Rob, Dave and Paul for using the carpet to fix the 500 Yard mound. Also Graham and John for finishing the lining of the clubhouse and John and Hubert for mowing the lawns. Hope I have not missed anyone.

John Smoothy wasn’t able to make it as he went to hospital in Griffith on Friday.  But good news he is back home today and looking forward to coming shooting soon. He has a special birthday coming up in March on the 8^th.

When we got around to shooting, the wind had picked up of course. Mostly coming from 2 O’Clock but at times coming down range or changing sides completely. We got caught a few times on the changes!

Despite the wind, it was a terrific afternoon nice and cool for a change!

Peter Kirkman made it two wins in succession when he took out last Monday’s nine-hole Vets Comp with a score of 34 nett, from Max Robinson, Vince Bradley and Denis Adams 35, Bob Alexander and John Burkinshaw 36, Warren Lynch 37, and John Hazell and Grahame Winson, 37 nett on a c/b. It was Bernie Mogford’s turn to collect in Thursday’s stableford comp, when he scored 20 pts for a win, from Eddie Wall 19, Terry Baker, Graeme Coulton, Tony Thompson, Peter Briggs, Denis Adams and Brian Jacobs 19, and Clarrie Ridley and Grahame Winson 18 pts c/b.

The ladies also competed in a nine-hole stableford event last Tuesday, and in Division 1, Una Pocock scored 18 pts to get home from Jenny Hazell, 17 pts on a c/b from Billie Johnstone. In Division 2, Carmel Pearce took the honours, as well as collecting the NTP voucher, with a solid score of 21 pts, from Janine Fitzgerald, 19, and Colleen Mavroudis, 18 pts. 

Pam Kellan cleaned up in Division 1 in Friday’s event, beating her handicap by five shots with a score of 23 pts, for an easy win from Una Pocock, 18 pts on a c/b from Sue Oakman. Colleen Mavroudis improved on her Tuesday effort when she scored a win in Division 2, with 18 pts, from Janine Fitzgerald 17 pts on a c/b from Marg Bradley. NTP to Val Brunskill. Last Wednesday’s members’ 18-hole stroke comp saw Peter Conlin score 72 nett to win the A Grade event, from Roman Adamcewicz 73, and Mick Laurent 74 nett.

In B Grade, Eddie Wall had some sort of day out, when he shaved 9 shots off his handicap with a score of 63 nett, and an easy win from the improving John Tritton 72, and Les Ryan 74 nett. NTP’s to Peter Lyons and Ted Ryan. Ball comp to 76 nett on a c/b.

The boys returned for their February Monthly Medal stroke event on Saturday, and it was no surprise to see the ultra-consistent Clarrie Ridley put it all together yet again for a nett score of 68, to take out A Grade from Zac Billingham on a c/b, while third spot went to Ray Bell. In B Grade, Billy Whalan also ran hot with a round of 67 nett and a win, from Country Club visitor, Trent Seaman 70 nett, on a c/b from astute punter, Peter Barnes.

In C Grade, Peter Austin also fired up for a score of 67 nett, and a one-shot win from Mick Landrigan, 68 nett, followed by Peter Fulmer 71 nett. NTPs to Peter Barnes, Zac Billingham and Matt Tooze, who landed his ball less than half a metre from the pin on the long and difficult 18th.  A good week of golf wound up with Tim’s nine-hole Sunday stableford comp, which was won by Louis Pilotto with 24 pts, from Kylie Baker 23, and Tony Thompson 22 pts. Ball comp to 18 pts.

The Wednesday Junior Doubles Tennis Competition at the Bolton Park Tennis Complex continues today. The competition is open to all players that are able to serve.

To enter turn up at the courts before the start time of 4pm, finish at 6pm sharp. Sportsman’s Warehouse Giftcards awarded at the end of the competition for those players playing five matches as well as a Best and Fairest award.

Leading the competition is Pat Wright on 12 points followed by Alastair Wright on 8½ points with Michael Paolucci-Ellis and Robert Grantham tied on 8 points then Wyatt Piltz and Isaac Schiller tied on 7½ points making up the top five placings. Winners of the McDonalds Sports Awards this week were Kelsey Atkinson and Makenna Irlam. No Junior Tennis at the Forest Hill courts for the moment. A few of the midweek riders departed Billy’s at about 9.15am last Wednesday and took the track down to Walbundrie by way of Henty and a couple of other villages on the Olympic Goat Track.

No, they didn’t go on to Howlong but turned left onto the Riverina Highway and landed in Albury in time for lunch. After a pleasant lunch they didn’t dilly-dally around but came straight home up the Hume and Olympic Way before the heat set in.

On Saturday, there was a good gathering at Billy’s for Meet and Greet and the usual discussions took place.  If your ears were burning stop complaining – you should have been there!

Sunday saw a good collection of riders leave Maccas, just after 9am and head for Temora.

Seven took to the tarmac altogether. After the crew left Temora they motored over to Ariah Park and then pulled up at the Cheese Factory, in Coolamon, for lunch. A couple of riders who broke away from the bunch before reaching Coolamon had wound the clock up a bit and confronted a Highway Patrol Car on his way to an accident. The monthly branch meeting was held last night and I will fill you in on the details next week.

From today on, there will be a gradual trickle of bikes and riders heading south to The Mornington Rally, which starts on Monday Morning at 10am. The crew I am travelling with is leaving from Billy’s at 8am on Saturday morning and we will be stopping off at Lakes Entrance on Saturday Night and Sunday Night, staying in an Airbnb. We will leave on Monday Morning for a leisurely stroll down to the Peninsular.

The latest info is out regarding the rally and I will just list the details regarding the AGM on the Saturday:

 AGM LOCATION AND CANTEEN

The Ulysses Club Inc. AGM will be held at The New Peninsula Centre, 370 Craigie Road, Mt Martha, starting at 1pm. The AGM is open to all financial members of Ulysses Club Inc.

The centre will open at noon and the centre’s canteen will be in operation. Those members who wish to arrive early, can have the convenience of the Centre’s Canteen for something to eat. Parking at the Centre is easy and plentiful. Canteen will be offering:

Pulled Pork Rolls with coleslaw - $16, Beef Brisket Rolls with candy Bacon - $16, Beef Burgers - $10 Hot Dogs - $5, Chips - $5 Donuts - $2 each or 6 for $10, Dim Sims - $1.50 Potato Cakes - $1, Bottled Water - $3 Cans of Soft Drink - $3.
