WAGGA CITY GOLF CLUB
Kerry Smith took the honours in last Monday’s nine-hole Vets comp with a score of 32 nett, from Warren Lynch and Roger Taylor 33, Terry Baker and Clarrie Ridley 34, Russell Parr and Denis Adams 35, and Eddie Wall, Max Robinson and Ron Culgan, each on 36 nett. In Thursday’s comp, new member, Vince Bradley, showed the way with 32 nett, from Grahame Winson 33, Clarrie Ridley and Dave Sutton 34, and Charlie Down 35 nett.
Tuesday’s ladies’ nine-hole stableford event went to Jan Salan in Division 1 with 19 points, from Doreen Hazell 18 points, on a countback from Trish Gray.
In Division 2, Carole Gardner scored 21 points for a win, from Sandra Mellen, 18 points, on a countback from Colleen Mavroudis.
The girls returned for another stableford event on Friday, when Sandra Mellen improved greatly on her Tuesday round, scoring 24 points for a clear win from Gloria Vonarx, 20 points, on a countback from Carole Gardner.
NTP to Gloria Vonarx. Ball Comp to 18 points, countback.
Wednesday’s members stableford saw some money change hands when Tim Barlow chipped in twice during his par round of 72, and 40 points, for a countback win from Warren Lynch, with Jim Briggs third with 39points.
NTP’s went to Kyle Harrison on both the 9th (where he knocked it to just 24cm from the pin) and 18th holes, and Eddie Wall on the 13th.
Ball Comp to 38 points.
The boys returned for a 4 Ball Multiplier event on Saturday, and it was the team of Ray Gladman and John Brown who claimed the major vouchers with a solid score of 91 points, from Josh Conlan and Phil Harrison, 81 points.
Ray also collected the best individual score voucher with 43 points, from Rowan Laurent, 42 points.
NTP’s to Andy White, John Messing and Eddie Wall. Ball Comp to teams with 65 points on a countback or better.
The week finished with Tim Barlow’s 18 hole Sunday Stableford event, which went to John Hazell with 42 points, from fellow golf-nut, Eddie Wall 40 points, on a countback from John’s better half, Doreen. Ball Comp to 37 points.
ULYSSES
Here we go again with virtually no activity due to the heatwave conditions.
Hopefully the hot weather will begin to diminish and we can get out and enjoy the ride.
In the meantime I will just give you some of the latest ins and outs of the 2019 Rally.
Late Registrations: Some registration options have booking closure dates to enable the required numbers to be contracted. If you wish to include one of the following options in your registration, please ensure that your registration is submitted by 5pm of the closure date: Tent City Now extended to February 8, Saturday Night Jockeys & Punters Dinner in on February 15.
RIDES: Do you enjoy great scenery, twisty roads - this area has some of the prettiest in the state – you can enjoy them on an Organised Ride, Self-Directed ride or just take a ride along the beautiful coastline. Female Ride Leaders: The 2019 National Rally has been fortunate with the number of local branch members who have volunteered to be ride leaders for our organised rides. We would like to promote that we have some female ride leaders this year, displaying the equality and diversity of the Ulysses Club.
GETTING THERE: For those attendees who have never travelled to the Mornington Peninsula or Melbourne regions, directions have been provided on the 2019 National Rally website for the various highway entrances to Melbourne and onward to Mornington Peninsula: http://agm2019.ulyssesclub.org/TheEvent/TheLocation.aspx
If you are travelling from the Mornington Peninsula Freeway direction, please take exit for BUNGOWER ROAD (Exit 17), follow Bungower Road until Racecourse Road, turn left.
We are encouraging attendees to enter the National Rally site from the direction of Bungower Road, travelling down Racecourse Road, left turn into Gate 3. Racecourse Road can be busy at times, so all attendees need to exercise due care when accessing (entry/exit) the National Rally site.
Attendees are advised that there will be NO SITE ACCESS prior to 8.30am Monday, February25, and that there is NO OFF-SITE PARKING available for early arrivals. Please time your arrival at the National Rally site to occur after 8.30am to avoid frustrations.
The Ulysses Club Inc. Annual General Meeting will be held at The New Peninsula Centre, 370 Craigie Road, Mt Martha on Saturday, February 2.
The doors will open at 12.30pm with meeting commencing at 1pm (doors closed).
All current members are invited to attend this meeting.
If you are attending this meeting, please present a current Ulysses Club Membership card.

THE Wednesday Junior Doubles Tennis Competition at the Bolton Park Tennis Complex will recommence next Wednesday, February 6 at 4pm.
The competition is open to all players that are able to serve. To enter turn up at the courts before the start time of 4pm finish at 6pm sharp.
Sportsmans Warehouse giftcards awarded at the end of the competition for those players playing five matches as well as a Best and Fairest award.
Last competition winner was Alastair Wright on 73½ points then Makenna Irlam on 47½ points followed by Michael Paolucci-Ellis on 46 points close behind Pat Wright on 40 points and Lucy Goodyer on 38 points making up the top five positions.
Tied winners of the Best and Fairest Award were Kelsey Atkinson and Michael Paolucci- Ellis.
The Final Saturday Junior Singles competition was held at the Forest Hill tennis courts.
No Saturday singles competition at Forest Hill this year.
The singles competition will now be held of a Thursday afternoon starting at 5pm to 7pm, commencing February 7.
The new Thursday Singles competition is for players wanting more serious tournament play, with proper tie-breaker sets being played.
There is prizemoney for the top twenty players in the competition for all players having played five matches, as well as a best and fairest award at the end of the competition.
To take part, just turn up at the start time of 5pm until 7pm.
Winning the Final Saturday Singles competition was Oliver Plum on 42 points followed by Robert Grantham on 30 points then Caden Maxwell on 28½ points with Tory Grantham on 14½ points and Riley Wilson on 6½ points making up the top 5 positions.
Unanimous winner of the Best and Fairest Award was Tory Grantham.
