Weather permitting our next scheduled ride will be on Sunday, February 3 leaving from McDonald’s Edward Street par Park at 9am.
Wednesday rides all leave from Billy’s Café in Gurwood Street at 9am.
Only 11 members attended out January breakfast, but we had an enjoyable couple of hours to start our new year.
After eating, chatting and drinking tea or coffee most people went home at about 10:30am.
Because Ian and Steve arrived on their motorbikes three of us decided to go for a ride.
We selected a short loop from Ladysmith via Alfred Town, Borambola, Tarcutta, Humula, Carabost and Book Book to Ladysmith.
With temperature being less than that experienced on last Thursday and Friday we rode the 125Km of undulating curves in just over 1.5 hours so Steve and Ian could return home before the day’s heat.

WAGGA CITY GOLF CLUB
KEITH Withers made easy work of it in last Monday’s nine-hole Vets stroke event, scoring 29 nett for an emphatic win from Peter Kirkman, Phil Powell and Ken McPherson 33, followed by Ken Batt, 34, and Tony Pollard, Jim Briggs, Don Thorne and Bill O’Rourke, 35, and Grahame Winson, 36, countback.
Ron Culgan took care of Thursday’s event with a score of 33 to beat Don Kirwan, Bill O’Rourke, Ken Batt and Tony Thompson, 35, then Burt Adams, Clarrie Ridley, John Hazell and Warren Lynch, 36, countback.
A small field braved the extreme heat in last Wednesday’s stableford, when Mick Laurent made the most of his generous 10 handicap to notch up 43, two clear of Phil Harrison, 41, on countback from Tim Barlow.
NTP’s to Andy White, Mick Landrigan and Warren Lynch. Ball comp to 38, countback.
Word around the club is that the near $100 Mick made in side-bets will go directly towards paying off his recent European junket.
The girls continued with their Summer Cup in the form of a nine-hole stableford event last Friday, and in Division 1, Pam Kellam scored 19 pts for a win, from Jan Marks, 17 pts on a c/b from Sue Oakman.
Carole Gardner scored 18 pts to pick up the main Division 2 voucher, from Colleen Mavroudis 17 pts, and Val Brunskill 13 pts. NTP to Jan Marks.
Members competed for the January Monthly Medal on Saturday, and one of the best senior golfers in the club, Max Horsnell, really had a day out.
Included in Max’s terrific round of 66 nett, was a hole-in-one on the par three 13th, which went a long way towards his five-shot win in A Grade, from Roman Adamcewicz, 71 on countback, from the in-form Warren Lynch.
In B Grade, John Messing also fired up, scoring 67 nett for a solid win from Frank Veliscek, 68, and Roger Taylor 71 nett. Darryl Dickinson took care of C Grade with 67 nett, from Michael Buckley 68, and Murray Denton 69 nett.
NTP’s went to Matt Tooze, Max Horsnell (of course), and Cloud Merrigan, who wound up his round by knocking it nice and close on the long par three 18th.
To say that Cloud finished the back nine in a better frame of mind than was the case on the front nine would be the mother of all understatements … considering the colourful and exciting entertainment he provided onlookers around the 9th hole while in the process of seven-putting from three feet, for a sensational seven-over par 10! ‘Onya Cloud!
Tim’s Nine-Hole Sunday stableford event went to Jim Neiberding with 23, from Gary Rake 21, on countback, from last week’s winner, John Hazell, then Sam Rodham, 20, and Doreen Hazell, 19.
