The boys shot a 4-under 32 for a nett score of 28, and an easy win from Peter Kirkman and Grahame Winson, 31 ½ nett, with Garry Forde and Jim Briggs taking third spot with 32 ¼ nett.

Wagga Country Club visitor John Gladstonbury claimed the chocolates in Thursday’s stableford event, scoring 22 pts to beat Tony Pollard on a c/b, from John Hazell 21 pts. Vouchers to 19 pts.

The ladies’ Summer Cup continued in the form of a nine-hole stroke event on Tuesday, and in Division 1, Dee Harley scored 37 nett for a win, from June Byrnes 38 pts on a c/b from Val Williams.

Sandra Mellen claimed Division 2 honours with 37 nett on a c/b from Pat Grieve, followed by Jan Leonard, 38 nett. NTP went to Vi Gardner.

The girls returned for a stableford event on Friday, and in Division 1, Jenny Hazell stood out with a great score of 22 pts, and a two-shot win from Cheryl Jeffree 20 pts, followed by Carol Martin with 18 pts. In Division 2, Vi Gardner scored 18 pts for a win, from Vi Gardner 17 pts on a c/b from Pat Grieve. NTP to Vi Gardner, who made it a double for the week.

Grahame Winson scored 39 pts to pip Kyle Harrison on a c/b to win A Grade in last Wednesday’s stableford event, followed by Clarrie Ridley on 38 pts. In another countback result, Trevor Garside scored 37 pts to beat Maurie Hogan, and collect the main B Grade voucher, while Billy Whalan secured third place with 36 pts.

NTPs went to Kyle Harrison, Andy White and Rod Salan, who knocked his ball to 40cm on the long par-three 18th. 

Members returned for another stableford event on Saturday, and in A Grade, Trevor Graham played well for 40 pts and a win, from the consistent Bob Alexander 39 pts on a c/b from Ray Bell.

John Parker also scored 40 pts to take out B Grade, from Geoff Asgill, 38, and John McLeod, 37 pts.

It was a much closer affair in C Grade, when Rod Whitlock scored 40 pts to get the better of both Brodie Moore and Charlie Adams in a three-way c/b. NTPs to Rod Whitlock, Todd Gunning and Rod Salan. Ball comp to 35 pts on a c/b.

The week wound up with Tim’s nine-hole Sunday stableford comp, which went to John Hazell with 21 pts, from Shane McPherson, 20 pts c/b from Doreen Hazell, followed by Andy White, Todd Ramsay and Gary Rake, 19 pts.

Wednesday twilights attracted a big roll-up of bowlers, with another visit from a mob from South Australia.

Liam, Kingsley, Butch and Paul Marston were the winners.

The Butchers meat vouchers went to Gail Driscoll, Keith Wilson and skip Spout Waterhouse.

Twilights return this week (weather permitting); names by 5.40pm for 6pm start.

The Presidents and Open Day on Saturday was very successful, with all rinks full.

The winning team was from Rules Club, with 2+19 from Ganmain 2+5.

Third prize money to RSL. Thanks to all who helped make this a success.

In the Wednesday Blind Draw Triples, sponsored by Battery World and Settlers Group, Keith Wellham, Mick Foxall, Pat O’Halloran claimed the winners prize with 23 points. Second place went to John Hetherington, Peter Wild, Johnno Johnston 21 points; 3rd place John Stout, Peter Reid, Ron Browne, Kevin Wales 18 points.

Friday’s Nominated Pairs was sponsored by The Athletes Foot and Flick Pest Services. The winners with 27 points were Chris Leonard, Ralph Todd; runners-up Keith Wellham, David Streher 20 points; 3rd place Pedro Rudd, Ken Chalker 19 points.

Nominations for 2019 Drawn Fours Championship closed yesterday with the first round to be played January 24. A nominations sheet is on the board for the 2019 Major Singles Championship; first round to be played February 3. Nominations are also open for the monthly Settlers Group Blind Draw Triples on Monday, February 11 with $600 prizemoney. 9.30am start; three games 14 ends. An attendance sheet is on the board for the presentation night on February 1, starting 6.30pm: three-course dinner including drinks $20 per head wives and partners most welcome.

Well, here we are again after a very pleasant spell of socialising. I trust you all had a good time with family and friends and are now ready to start a new year with plenty of fizz and zizz.

Five riders, two on spiders and three on two wheelers, headed off last Wednesday for Tumbarumba, Tooma and Tintaldra, stopping at Walwa for a nice leisurely lunch. After lunch they all navigated back to Wagga via Jingellic, Holbrook and Mangoplah. The day turned out to be quite pleasant with moderate temperatures for a change. Roast dinners and stews are off the menu at the moment and it looks as though we may have some more hot days to contend with for a while yet.

Our next event is breakfast at Grauer’s on Sunday, January 20 at 7.30am followed by a ride to the mountains later in the morning. Lesley and Gerhard’s address is 11 Tywong Street, Ladysmith and if you need to contact them the home phone number is 6922 1569.

Apart from the weekly Wednesday rides, which leave Billy’s Café in Gurwood Street at 9am, the Sunday rides take place on the first and third Sunday of each month from McDonald’s car park in Edward Street at 9am. The next Sunday ride will be on February 3.

There will not be a branch meeting this month; the first one for 2019 is scheduled for Tuesday February 19. The next big event is the national rally at Mornington, Victoria, which gets under way on Monday, February 25 and runs through to Monday, March 4.
