My life is in turmoil. I no longer love my husband and desperately want to leave him.
Unfortunately, all the finances are tied up in his name and much of his dealings he has kept secret from me.
I have little idea about the bills, savings or how much I would need to leave.
This has always been his domain while I raise the children.
What should I do?
We have no children and my financial input has been minimal - I don’t come from wealth.
AGONY AUNT
I SUGGEST you get yourself a lawyer to start with and spell out the entire story to him.
I am assuming that your husband knows you are not happy and want out of the marriage?
If not, that may be the first conversation you need to have.
Perhaps legal problems can be averted.
Might be a good idea to get a bit of counselling to tide you through the rough patches which could present themselves in the future.
There are also several financial programs run through local charities which may be able to get you get an understanding of the budget. Chin up – the sun will surely rise tomorrow.
