Scratch winners on Tuesday were Jan Marks and Monica Kember with 24pts, from Dee Harley and Linda Coombe 23pts, while the best nett scores went to Marg Hogan and Therese Quinn, with 51 pts, from Val Williams and Gloria Vonarx 47pts.

Friday’s final round scratch event went to Janelle Doust and Maureen Foley with 29pts, from Jan Marks and Monica Kember, 22pts, while the handicap event was won by Lyn Donohoe and Carol Martin, 48pts, from Marg Hogan and Therese Quinn, 47 pts countback.

There was also a big round of applause at the Country Club last Tuesday for one of our favourite ladies, Vi Gardner.

Vi collected the RLGA’s inaugural Beryl Kennedy Memorial Trophy for her best nett score of 73 (c/b) in the District-wide event held earlier in the year.

Well done also to Claire Slater of the Country Club, who won the Scratch prize.

Vets news and last Monday saw Eddie Wall continue his good form with 32 nett, two clear of Clarrie Ridley 34, followed by Mick de Vries, Kerry Smith and Peter Kirkman, 35 nett.

Thursday’s comp went to Barry Longmore, with 34 nett, on a countback from Bernie Mogford, Charlie Down and Tony Martin, followed by Clarrie Ridley, Phil Powell and Peter Kirkman on 35 nett.

Members played a stroke event last Wednesday, and in A Grade, Col Smith scored 73 nett for a win, from Peter Treharne 74 on a countback from Grahame Winson.

Rod Whitlock claimed B Grade with a solid 68 nett, from Owen Guthrie 70 nett on a countback from Maurie Hogan.

NTPs to Cloud Merrigan, John Brown and Kyle Harrison.

Ball comp to 70 nett on a countback.

The boys returned for a stableford event on Saturday, and in A Grade, Adrian George scored 36pts to beat Warren Lynch on a countback, with Bob Alexander third with 35pts.

Matt McMullen won B Grade with 40pts, one clear of Bill Whalan and Bob McKenzie, while Rowan Laurent ran hot when he carded 43pts to beach Ian Hitchman 41, and Bruce Masters 40pts.

Ball comp to 34 pts on a countback. Finally, this Sunday’s Stableford comp will be over 18 holes.

This coming weekend will see many top bowlers in action in the $10,000 Classic Fours the premier event on the Bowls calendar in this part of the State. Play will commence at 9am Saturday, Sunday and Monday and will take in 6 games of 21 ends. Nominations close Sunday 30th September for all positions on the executive & committee of the club for the next season. There will be no Sunday Bowls this week due to the Classic Fours Tournament.

The Wednesday Junior Doubles Tennis Competition continues today at the Bolton Park Tennis Complex.

This will be last before the school holidays when the competition will resume again on Wednesday, October 17 at the normal time.

The competition is open to all players that are able to serve.

To enter turn up at the courts before the start time of 4pm and finish at 6pm sharp.

Sportsman’s Warehouse Giftcards awarded at the end of the competition for those players playing five matches as well as a Best and Fairest award.

New leader of the competition is Alastair Wright on 34 points then Pat Wright on 29½ points, with Makenna Irlam on 24 points followed by Michael Paolucci-Ellis on 21 points and Lucy Goodyer on 18 ½ points making up the top five positions.

This week’s McDonalds Sports Award went to Alastair Wright and Kelsey Atkinson.

The Saturday Singles competition is for players wanting more serious tournament play, with proper tie-breaker sets being played.

There is prize money for the top twenty players in the competition for all players having played five matches, as well as a best and fairest award at the end of the competition.

To take part, just turn up at the start time of 3pm until 5pm.

New leader of the Singles competition is Caden Maxwell on 12½ points, then Oliver Plum on 9 ½ points followed by Robert Grantham on 9 points with Alastair Wright on 6 points and Tory Grantham on 4 ½ points making up the top 5 positions.

This week’s winner of the McDonalds Sports Award was Caden Maxwell.

There is no Saturday Junior tennis competition during the school holidays, the competition resumes October 20 at the normal time.

I told you that if you waited long enough the weather would improve, and that has happened of late with some beautiful days showering sunlight upon us. 

On Wednesday, September 12  Gurt, Fred, Oscar, Les, Gerhard, Keith and Trevor headed down the Olympic Way toward Albury but only got as far as Yerong Creek when Trev had to peel off to go home with a sharp pain in his leg. 

The rest continued on, ending up at Holbrook where they had the usual cup of coffee and a top-up of breakfast goodies. 

It was here they met a Tasmanian rider who was returning from the Black Dog Ride in Darwin. 

He had ridden up with a bunch of Victorians and they somehow all got split up on the return journey, which in his case was about 12,000 kilometres. 

With the formalities of morning tea over, the bunch navigated to Walwa for lunch at the Walwa Pub. 

After lunch, the ride took them past the Mannus Prison farm to Tumbarumba where Keith had to top up with fuel, and from there they all took the direct path home to Wagga.

A good day out in the sun with good company.

Sunday, September 16 saw a short ride take place with four members, Gurt, Steve, Les and Ian, on the trail to Tumbarumba for coffee and then back to Holbrook for lunch. 

It was a relatively short ride in pretty cold conditions but enjoyable nonetheless.

Tuesday, September 18 was the last branch meeting with about thirteen in attendance with no new developments popping up. 

On Wednesday, September 19 the Billy’s Café mob rode to Grong Grong via the river road and then continued on to Narrandera, had a brief spell there and took the Barellan road to Colinroobie where they took a right turn to Leeton. 

They had lunch at the old time favourite - Leeton Hotel. 

After lunch they all set sail for Boree Creek so Woody could go and visit his mother around there somewhere. 

The rest continued on to Lockhart then Tootal and then back home to Wagga, and by all accounts, it was a great day out in pleasant conditions.
