Saturday afternoon sweepstakes at 1000Yards was very difficult with strong winds and a shower of rain.  But still 18 intrepid shooters came along and gave it their best.  It was just as tough for the Butts crew from the Lockhart Fishing club as the wind was whistling through the butts. And then came the rain. Mad dogs and Englishman comes to mind! 

Thank you to Kevin Paton and helpers who managed to fix Target 2 Lifting frame which failed late in the afternoon so that it would be ready on Sunday morning.

On Sunday we started at 8.30am on schedule. At 9.30am the temperature was six degrees but after the wind chill the apparent temperature was below zero. Wind speeds were up to 63km per hour and it blew hard and cold all day with fast changes. Not surprisingly we only had 34 shooters attending with a number calling to send their apologies. Still despite the cold all had a good day and most stayed for the presentation. 

Thank you to the ladies in the kitchen who kept us fed with hot drinks and food. Great job Linda, Ros, Sue, Margaret, Dale and Zoe.

We had a number of visitors from far away including John and Helen from Perth, Alan Noble from Eugowra and Charlie Attard from Sydney.

A special thankyou to all or Green Team members and others who helped get the range looking so good.  It is a team effort and the range looked great despite the weather!

THESettlers Group Monthly two bowl blind draw Triples on Monday saw Dennis Rawlings, Alan Jacobson, Barry Belt claim the winners prize of $210 with three wins plus 27 shots up; 2nd prizemoney of $120 was won by Andrew Carey, John Ashcroft, Wal Paton three wins plus 24 shot and 3rd prizemoney of $90 went to Terry Rosewall, Mick Foxall, Peter Reid three wins plus 16 shots. This week’s Wednesday competition was sponsored by The Athletes Foot. Winners were Geoff Rainbird, Jim Sloan, Bob Linnett 24; runners up Mark Pearce, Norm King, Ollie Henderson 23; 3rd Chris Leonard, Dooley Carroll, Jeff Edwards 21: 4th Barry Belt, Wayne Smithers, Pat Peters 20. SANDRA Mellen put together a terrific round of golf in last Tuesday’s Ladies’ stroke event, scoring 66 nett to win Division two by seven shots from runner-up, Pat Grieve 73 nett. In Division 1, Sue Oakman scored 72 nett to get home from Gloria Vonarx, 74 nett. NTP to Jan Leonard. The girls returned on Friday for a stableford event, and in Division 1, Trish Gray amassed 40 pts for a win, from Lyn Donohoe 39. Jan Leonard also scored 40 for success in Division 2, with Lilian Sutherland runner-up with 38. NTP to Cassie Gill. Ball Comp to 33 on a c/b.

Last Monday’s Vets stroke comp, and Bob Hodge scored 35 nett to win by a shot from Tony Thompson, followed by a large group of players on 37 nett, including Carole Gardner, Clarrie Ridley, Terry Baker, Bob Alexander, Bill O’Rourke, Mick de Vries, Peter Kirkman and John Burkinshaw. Thursday’s event went to Terry Baker with 33 nett, from Tony Brunskill and Bob Hodge 34, Dave Sutton 35, and Dennis Stillman and Tony Martin 36 nett.

Grahame Winson collected some extra cash from his mates when he made it two mid-week comps in a row, scoring 67 nett to win last Wednesday’s A Grade stroke event. Peter Conlin claimed second spot with 69 nett, with Steve Hall third with 70 nett. In B Grade, Luke Tooze fired up with a great score of 64 nett, for a comfortable win from Bob Warhurst, 69 nett on a c/b from Tom McDonnell. Ball Comp to 73 nett on a c/b. The NTP’s, and once again, it was well done to Luke Tooze, who landed his ball inside a metre on the long and treacherous par three 9th hole, while Ray Barnett knocked it close on the 13th, and Mick Hazell did likewise on the 18th. 

Members braved the wind and rain to return for Saturday’s Monthly Medal stroke event, and in A Grade, Matt Tooze played solid golf off his low handicap for 73 nett, to win on a c/b from Adrian George, also on a c/b. Mud-runner, Matt McMullen, scored 69 nett to take care of B Grade, one shot better than Paul Hallam, while in C Grade, it was Kevin Rafter’s turn with a score of 70 nett, from Peter Smith, 71 nett. NTP’s to Paul Hallam, Peter Conlin and Frank Veliscek. Ball comp to 75 nett.

Sunday’s events comprised of Tim’s nine-hole stableford, which went to Peter McDonald with 20 pts, from Darren Johnston 18 pts. Balls to 17 pts, and the Business Girls stroke event, which was won by Sally Davidson with 73 nett, from Cheryl McKee 75, and Jeanette Ronfeldt 79 nett.

THERE will be no tennis competition this Saturday in the Junior Singles competition at the Forest Hill courts. Last Saturday the Singles competition was washed out.

The Wednesday Junior Doubles Tennis Competition continues today at the Bolton Park Tennis Complex.

The competition is open to all players that are able to serve. To enter turn up at the courts before the start time of 4pm finish at 6pm sharp. Sportsmans Warehouse Giftcards awarded at the end of the competition for those players playing five matches as well as a Best and Fairest award.

Leading the competition is Pat Wright on 20 points then Makenna Irlam and Alastair Wright tied on 11½ points with Kelsey Atkinson and Brodie Holz tied on 9 points making up the top five positions.

This week’s McDonalds Sports Award went to Brodie Holz and Makenna Irlam.

The Saturday Singles competition is for players wanting more serious tournament play, with proper tie-breaker sets being played. There is prizemoney for the top twenty players in the competition for all players having played five matches, as well as a best and fairest award at the end of the competition. To take part, just turn up at the start time of 3pm until 5pm.    

Leading the Singles competition after the first week is Caden Maxwell on 5 points then Oliver Plum, Pat Wright and Alastair Wright all tied on 3 ½ points with Robert Grantham on 2½ points making up the top 5 positions.

This week’s Singles winners of the McDonalds Sports Award were Caden Maxwell and Tory Grantham.

THREE Can Am Spyders and a two wheeler made the total contingent that left Billy’s last week but due to a busy calendar I didn’t find out where they disappeared to.

Saturday at Billy’s saw a good attendance inside. It is still a bit cool out on the footpath diner.

Steve Oldfield was the only rider to front up on Sunday for a ride and he went over to Gundagai and back for a quick squirt.  The weather was cold and windy so not a good day to be out and about.

The next major event on our calendar is the Tri Branch get together at Yackandandah at the end of the month on the 31st.  If  you intend going, give Bill Allott a call on 0417 652 974.

The Ulysses Club web site has just been overhauled and details regarding the Rally in Victoria next year will be posted shortly. Keep your eyes peeled.
