Bradley Addison, group leader of 1st Kooringal Scout Group, has been honoured for his dedication to Scouting with a Meritorious Service Award.
“It was very humbling,” he said.
“It was really unexpected because as adult volunteers it's not what we are doing it for, but it’s fantastic to be recognised.
“I was a cub myself, I came into the movement when I was eight years old.”
Having experienced Scouts as both a youth and adult member, Mr Addison is enthusiastic and passionate about Scouting and what it has contributed to his life
“I love Scouting because of what it gives to kids, particularly in this day and age,” he said.
“It’s an opportunity to get kids away from computers and phones and get them outdoors and learning new skills.
“It teaches kids things like independence, resilience and gives them confidence to be, I believe, the leaders of the future."
Mr Addison said that it is critical to give children the chance to unplug and get out and get them in the bush.
“The single biggest thing I want them to take away, is confidence,” he said
“To be the best version of themselves and that is what Scouting really does.”
Dorothy ‘Jeannie’ Roberts has been awarded a Silver Koala for fifteen years of distinguished service.
Ms Roberts joined 1st Kooringal Scout Group as a Cub Scout Leader in 1999, and is highly regarded across the Riverina for her depth of knowledge and fun and inventive programming ideas.
Behind the scenes, Ms Roberts willingly shares her knowledge and experience to benefit and develop other leaders, assists in planning region and district events, and provides support for youth and leader training courses.
Ms Roberts’ dedication to guide youth members and lead by example in Scouting is evident in the number and range of activities she is involved in.
She has supported activities across all sections including innovative bush walks with Joeys, fun and exciting adventures with Cubs, and camps and hikes with Scouts.
Ian Petty, Acting Riverina Scouts Region Commissioner said these leaders selflessly devote their time and energy to Scouts for the benefit of others.
“It’s great that they have been recognised for the positive impact they have on the lives of so many of our youth members,” he said.
Mr Addison said there are always vacancies and anyone who wishes to know more information can contact him on 0408 497 725.
