In the day’s handicap event, Carmel Pearce and Fay Baker led the way with a nett score of 71, three clear of Jan Leonard and Therese Quinn’s 74 nett. NTPs to Simone Pilotto (odds) and Therese Quinn (evens).

The second and final round of the Championships was played on Friday, when the team of Janelle Doust and Maureen Foley scored 92 off the stick to take out the scratch event, from Cassie Gill and Una Pocock, 98. Handicap winners on the day were Lyn Donohoe and Trish Gray, who combined for a sensational round of 66 nett, while the runners-up vouchers went to Lorraine Hickey and Lorraine McGowan, 69.5 nett.

NTPs to Kitty Howe (odds) and Monica Kember (evens). Congratulations to Janelle Doust and Maureen Foley, who put together a two-round total of 193 to claim the title of Foursomes Championships, by a shot from Lyn Donohoe and Trish Gray, 194 on a c/b. Lyn and Trish, however, took plenty of consolation in winning the handicap event with a net score of 140, from Cassie Gill and Una Pocock, 143.

Vets news, and last Monday saw the ageless Bert Adams do it yet again, winning the nine-hole stroke event with a score of 34 nett, a shot better than  Alan French, Ron Culgan, Les Hodges and Tony Pollard. In Thursday’s comp, Maureen Martin, beat the boys home with a score of 33 nett, on a c/b from Peter Briggs, followed by Danny McIntyre and Russell Parr 35.

Kerry Smith played well in last Wednesday’s stableford event when he scored 38 pts for a win in A Grade, from Steve Hall, 37 nett. In B Grade, Steve Rodham fired up for 39 pts for a c/b win from John Brown. NTPs to Roman Adamcewicz, Bob Alexander and Peter Friedlieb. Balls to 34 pts c/b.

Members returned for a 2-person ambrose on Saturday, which went to Keith Bevan and Paul Hallam with 61.5 nett, from Phil Harrison and Jeremy Whalan 62.5 on a c/b from Charlie Adams and Frank Veliscek. NTPs to Eden Stubbbings, Brad Burkinshaw and Max Oakman. Balls to 68 nett.

Business girls saturday: Simone Pilotto 38 pts, from Pam Kellam 36 pts, and Maureen Foley 35 pts. Tim’s Sunday 18-hole Stableford: Phil Harrison 42 pts, from the in-form Kyle Harrison 40 pts (1 under off the stick).

What a great day of racing it was for the VIE13 Kustom Apparel John Woodman Memorial Wagga to Albury Cycling Classic! A total 76 riders battled blustery conditions which saw one of the scratch riders Ben Dyball, from St George CC, attack at Morgans Lookout near Walla Walla to bridge across to limit and bunch three which had come together. He attacked that group on the Albury side of Jindera and came home for a solo win.

The long 1000 Yards at Lockhart last Saturday. We had a few members away attending the two-day Tumut F Class Teams shoot.  John, David, Rob, Neville and Ben.   

At Lockhart, it was quite good conditions with dull light from the overcast cloud cover. 

The breeze was gentle but had to be watched, as it was constantly changing. John Smoothy was shooting well again after his big win at 300 Yards last week. He won the first stage by a couple of points but in the second stage had an accidental early shot and caught a 1 for his trouble. That probably cost him the win in F Class, which went to Graham. Scott did three Target rifle stages for a 72, 73 and 74. Trying out and adjusting his new shooting jacket.

More work was done on the clubhouse in the morning. Thanks to Graham and Brendon who fitted some more wall sheeting which has improved the look of the clubhouse greatly.

Next week will be a 600Y trophy event.

2018 Imperial Meeting Bisley Update: Congratulations to our Phil Bain who has had a great shoot in Bisley. Some of his results include: 8th in the FCWC Celebration Aggregate; 7th in the Admiral Hutton; 4th in the Century; 7th in the Century aggregate; 9th in the Corporation; 6th in the Daily Telegraph; 9th in the Duke of Cambridge; 4th in the Farquharson; 6th in the Grand Aggregate; 6th in the David Kent Cup; 8th in the Stickeldown Aggregate; 5th in the Times; 3rd in the Wimbledon.

Also, Australia has been very well represented in Target Rifle with some great shooting. Australia won the Overseas team competition from Guernsey in 2nd and Canada in third.

Our Blue Heeler 500m Fly shoot is only a month away on the 25th and 26th of August and preparations are well underway.

We held a 500m Fly shoot, with 5 people taking advantage of the practice for next month.

Josh Arundell showed he's one to watch shooting a 223.04 to win.

Ken Perrin was hot on his heels with a 222.02 and Rob Cheetham came third with a 189.01.

Next weekend we have Shotgun on Saturday the 4th from 1.30pm, and on Sunday we will have Centerfire Field Rifle and Lever Action from 10am.

Have you ever heard of ChopperTown?  Well I hadn’t even heard of it until yesterday and that is where the crew from last week’s ride ended up. They had journeyed down Albury-Wodonga way through The Rock, Tootal and Lockhart and Gurt led them out to Beechworth Road in Wodonga where Choppertown is located. What a fascinating place. You can get your bike, trike or old car transformed in to a work of art (for a small fee), and whilst there it is possible to get a hair cut, a sandwich and a cup of coffee. The riders spent a fair while there admiring the works of art and replenishing the food train. They didn’t travel that far for the day but they had a great day out, once again in good weather with good company. Come join us on Wednesdays the rides are always interesting and the decision of direction is made on the day over a warm cup of coffee.

Saturday Meet and Greet was down on numbers again due to the lousy weather but those who did make the grade enjoyed the outing with great volumes of knowledge bouncing around.

Sunday was not an official ride day and although the day started out being a bit bleak it improved immensely as the day wore on. A fair dollop of rain on Saturday night was very welcome and thunder and lightning kept the neighbourhood dogs barking most of the night.   Overall, things have been a bit quiet but this coming Sunday is the annual trip out to Morundah to link up with Griffith and Albury-Wodonga Branches for what always promises to be a sumptuous feed. If you haven’t made your intentions known give Les Smith a call on 0468 450 368 ASAP.  Last week I made a mistake and said that the next ride in August would be on the 9th. That is not correct it will be on the 19th, leaving McDonalds Edward Street Car Park at 9:30am. And, of course, the next event will be the Tri Branch get-together at Yackandandah on August 31 through to September 2.  Give the Caravan Park a call to book accommodation on 02 6027 1380. It is a great venue and the weekend is looking to shape up to a ripper.

Tennis lessons have resumed at Henschke Primary school and Forest Hill tennis courts.

The Wednesday Junior Doubles Tennis Competition commenced last week at the Bolton Park Tennis Complex. The competition is open to all players that are able to serve. To enter turn up at the courts before the start time of 4pm finish at 6pm sharp.

Leading the competition after the first week is Pat Wright on 7 points just ahead of Brodie Holz on 6 points then Makenna Irlam on 5 points then Alastair Wright on 4 points and Lucy Goodyer on 3 points making up the top five positions. This week’s Sports Award went to Kelsey Atkinson and Brodie Holz. Last Saturday’s Junior Tennis competitions at Forest Hill was washed out and will recommence this week.

The Masters competition is for players wanting more serious tournament play, with proper tie-breaker sets being played. There is prize money for the top 20 players in the competition for all players having played five matches, as well as a best and fairest award at the end of the competition. To take part, just turn up at the start time of 3pm until 5pm. Winner of the last Masters competition was Oliver Plum on 54 points second was Caden Maxwell on 29 points then Robert Grantham on 17½ points with Lachlan McDonald on 14 points and Pat Wright on 12½ points making up the top 5 positions. The junior tennis competition is open to all juniors wanting to play tennis in a friendly relaxed format, and is their first steps to playing competition. All players should be able to serve to take part. There will be trophies to all players having played at least five matches. As well there is a special best and fairest award presented at the end of the competition.

This competition starts at 3pm to 5pm. Winning the junior tournament was Alastair Wright on 30 points, second was Tory Grantham on 23½ points then Yassin El Sanabary on 9½ points. Best and Fairest Awards went to Masters Oliver Plum and Junior Competition tied winners were Alastair Wright and Tory Grantham.
