From a dance in Batlow, to meeting “by chance” the following day, John and Elsie Christian’s relationship grew from there.
The young pair married in 1958 and when both of their jobs wrapped up they moved to Wagga 20 years later, as two of their sons were undertaking apprenticeships there.
Mrs Christian admits that they have had their problems, like most couples, but they have worked together to overcome them.
“We’ve had our hiccups, that’s just life,” she said.
“Life is not meant to be easy, you just have to find your way through.
“But, we’ve stuck together.”
Mr and Mrs Christian have kept a busy life, with five sons
While the couple’s long-lasting marriage is an example for all newly-weds, Mrs Christian said today’s world is very “different” from the one she grew up in.
“Everything is too fast, for us too,” she said.
“I wish all those couples out there to reach their goals and to look after their families.
“It’s not an easy road to go on and good luck to them.”
The couple have just returned from visiting one of their sons in Canberra for dinner, however aren’t sure exactly what they will do on their special anniversary night, July 5.
