Longtime hairdresser Lisa Hill, lost her battle with ovarian cancer in 2016 and her daughters and co-workers started Rainbow Day last year to raise money for cancer research.
This year on July 21, Dakota Hair and Beauty will open their doors again and offer shampoo and blow drys for a charitable donation.
Lisa’s daughters Anna Worland and Gina Hill said the day was a way for them to keep their mother’s memory alive and help fight cancer.
“Last year because it was the first anniversary it was such a sad time, but it was heartwarming to see the community come together to support the cause,” Anna said.
“This year we are supporting Sam Johnson and Love Your Sister.
“We really felt like that we love where is he going, raising money for the eradication of all cancers which is a great way to make change.”
Lisa worked up until the last possible moment, Anna said, until she was too sick to work because of her ovarian cancer.
Gina Hill echoed Anna’s sentiments and said it was the best way to honour her.
“I think it’s a really nice way for mum’s friends and family to get together and be together and honour her legacy and do it in a way where we are helping fundraise to try and eradicate the terrible disease of cancer,” she said.
Tammie Wilson, the owner of Dakota Hair and Beauty and friend of Lisa, said she thinks it’s important for the community to have events like this.
“When Lisa passed away we decided we wanted to continue her love and passion for hairdressing,” she said.
”We decided to start Rainbow Day and we would get hairdressers to donate their time and we would donate all the proceeds to charity.
“Last year it brought so many different people together because cancer has affected most people somehow, no matter what type it is.”
Lisa’s friends and family are still looking for sponsors for Rainbow Day, if you are interested in helping out in whatever way you can please contact Dakota Hair and Beauty on 6971 7197.
