Wagga City Wanderers suffered a ‘disappointing’ 4-1 loss to Gazy Auburn FC at Rawlings Park on Saturday.
The Wanderers played well for large periods of the game but ultimately crashed to their second straight defeat at home.
Wanderers coach Ross Morgan said it was a game the club hoped to secure points from.
“The boys and myself were bitterly disappointed with (Saturday),” Morgan said.
“We started the game really well and were on top and the better team for the first 20 to 25 minutes. We found ourselves 1-0 down after a goal against the run of play, we missed an opportunity from a penalty to go 1-1 and it was a spot we couldn’t recover from.”
The Wanderers trailed 2-0 at half-time but the visitors were able to score again within the first minute of the second half.
Caylum Barber scored the Wanderers’ only goal to make it 4-1, while Daniel Okot was a standout playing in defence.
“The 4-1 scoreline probably didn’t reflect the game but that’s stage league and that’s what we’ve got to get used to," Morgan said.
In better news for the club, both the under 18s and 20s claimed points.
The under 18s drew 2-2, with Lachlan Cook and Dylan Shanahan scoring goals.
The under 20s drew 1-1 with Brady Sim scoring the goal.
