My wife is becoming a drunk. We have been married 10 years and have no children, by choice.
She has always been a big drinker, but lately she is always drunk. And I do not mean a little tiddly. I mean roaring, rolling drunk. Unfortunately when she drinks to access she is quite rude, ignorant and combative. Many a night I have felt like leaving.
I have been thinking of asking her Mum to talk to her. What should I do?
AGONY AUNT
YOU need to examine if there has been something that could have escalated her drinking. Any crisis in her life? Always easier to fix the cause.
If there is nothing, and she won’t talk to you about her alcohol abuse, she leaves you with little choice but to involve others.
If her mother is prepared to speak to her by all means ask for her help. It may not work though. Generally speaking people with drinking problems are the last ones prepared to admit to the problem and deal with the consequences. You may have a long haul ahead of you.
I suggest you speak to a counsellor or perhaps even somebody from Alcoholics Anonymous to find some coping mechanisms for yourself.
BOYS CLUB
NOTHING worse than an ugly drunk especially if it’s female!
