Using his passion for music as a driving force, Daniel Tooze spent the last few months organising Original Sundays.
Opportunities to perform live are generally limited to a set list of cover songs, Mr Tooze said.
“There’s not really a place that people can play and showcase their own music, I just want to give the opportunity to others,” he said.
Daniel Tooze finished his latest album Birmingham Avenue and decided the next step in his career was to provide a platform for the next generation of artists in Wagga.
‘Original Sundays’ are the creation of Mr Tooze, where artists will perform their own content at monthly gigs in March, April and May. A finale festival will be held in June, which will see all the artists brought together.
“I’m a bit older now and I am not looking for fame or fortune,” he said.
"I just want to give the opportunity to others to play in the community and act as sort of a mentor to them.”
The goal is to allow musicians to develop their product, record their original content and further their careers, and Mr Tooze cannot wait to get started.
“I’m looking forward to seeing them play and seeing what music they come up with,” he said.
Wagga is becoming a city that celebrates local artists and talent, and Mr Tooze said local businesses were happy to get on board with his plan.
“There are a few venues in town, such as the Thirsty Crow and the Birdhouse, that want to support it,” he said.
“There is going to be more scope for the arts as the city grows.”
Mr Tooze and his own band will be the host performers at each gig and a local artist will also provide an art exhibition for the event.
The ‘Original Sunday’ sessions kick off this weekend on Sunday, March 25 at the Thirsty Crow from 3pm.
