THIS year has been a busy and rewarding one at Wagga City Library, and we would love to rest on some laurels, but there isn’t time: preparations are under way for some terrific programs in 2018.

Some are new; others are old favourites.
One of the great successes of 2017, the Language Café, will return next year.
The Language Café classes assist Wagga residents who have English as their second or sometimes third language.
Participants can strengthen their conversational English language skills with the assistance of trained volunteers, while also building new social networks and improving their listening skills.
These free classes take place in the library’s Community Learning Space every Monday, Thursday and Saturday.
Another popular returning programme in 2018, Tech Savvy Seniors, is a partnership between the library, Telstra and the NSW Government that provides free technology training to older people across NSW.
Our classes for 2017 were booked solid for most of the year, but we have been taking expressions of interest for 2018, and we have a wide range of classes planned, from mastering the internet to using smartphones and tablets.
Tech Savvy Seniors is not just about teaching you how to use a gadget: it’s about using technology to enhance social engagement and interaction, as well as connection with friends, families and communities.
This year was the tenth anniversary of the Riverina Regional Book Club, a service that now consists of 85 clubs region-wide, with more than half of those meeting in Wagga every month.
If you’d like to connect with people who share your passion for reading, or you’d like to discover new and varied authors and their works, joining a book club is a great way to do that, and more.
Come to our annual Strays & Waifs evening, 5.30pm on Monday, January 22. Existing book club leaders who are looking to fill up their membership with compatible bibliophiles will be delighted to meet you.
New to the library in 2018 is Family Movie Wednesday, which will operate in all the school holidays throughout the year.
Starting on January 3, and continuing weekly throughout the summer holidays, we will be showing popular classics Despicable Me, Up, Fantastic Mr Fox and The Peanuts Movie.
Sessions start at 10.30am in the downstairs Children’s Area, and are free.
For more information on any of these programs, try our website’s “What’s On” page, or our Facebook page.
The Library is presently closed, but we will re-open at 10am on Tuesday, January 2.
The library chute is open should you need to return any items, and don’t forget you can access the e-library (rrl.nsw.gov.au/elibrary) 24/7 for books, music, audiobooks and films.
Lastly, to all our patrons, Happy New Year! See you in 2018.
