ULYSSES
A BUNCH of six ventured out, last week, with Oscar on his spider who was dead set on going to Walwa. However he was overruled by the others who decided that Talbingo was to be the target for lunch.
So off they all went to Junee, scratched their heads and motored on to Cootamundra.
From Coota across to Gundagai and Brungle then up to Tumut arriving at Talbingo right on lunch time.
After lunch and the usual chat about all things important they all headed back to Tumut and then home after a great day in the saddle.
On Friday, five of us headed off from Billy’s to attend the Sydney Motorcycle Show at The Darling Harbour Convention Centre.
We elected to Stay at Blackheath and get the train into the city on Saturday morning and in doing so we did some involuntary sight seeing.
The trip down to Blackheath was fairly uneventful, travelling to Cowra (lunch) then Bathurst and Lithgow arriving at about 4pm.
We went down to the Ivanhoe Hotel where a Jazz weekend was in full swing, and an old Wagga mate, Neville Smith, was the compare.
It was good to catch up with Smithy and with a bit of jazz, a nice meal and a few reds put us to bed early for an early start for the train journey into the city on Saturday morning.
We arrived at Central Station and then got the Light Rail thingy to Darling Harbour where we spent the best part of the next five hours wandering around the bike show which I must say was a little disappointing with many bike show people not there.
From the show we then got a Ferry from Darling Harbour to Circular Quay and from Circular Quay we took another Ferry to Parramatta where we caught a train back to Blackheath. More jazz, another nice meal, a few more reds and we retired at about 10.30pm to freshen up for the trip home on Sunday.
All in all a nice few days away with good company, good weather and good riding.
Saturday saw the usual turn out at Billy’s for Meet and Greet with some friendly banter over a nice hot cup of coffee and a muffin.
The big deal this week is the Toy Run on Saturday which is open to any licensed motorcyclist with a registered bike.
Entry fee is a toy of some description suitable for a junior from age three to 15, please try and avoid a stuffed toy like a teddy bear – we tend to get truck loads of them.
The run starts at Jubilee Oval car park at 9am sharp. Please be there about 8.30am and if you come earlier than that, say 7.30am, the Kooringal Scouts will be there with bacon and egg rolls for an early breakfast. Tea and coffee will also be available.
Once we get under way the run heads out through Bourkelands to Estella then Forest Hill where we briefly stop before travelling on through Lake Albert to Apex Park, and at Apex Park the Scouts will be there with morning tea.
From Apex Park we travel through most suburbs and end up in Morgan Street where we regroup and travel up Baylis Street, finishing at the Civic Centre for the closing ceremonies and raffle draws and other stuff.
Come on along and enjoy the ride which totals about 90 kilometres so make sure you have sufficient fuel on board.
The next, and last, ride for the year is on December 17 to Young and the last Branch meting will be on Tuesday , December12 where a sausage sizzle will be on offer at 6.30am and the meeting will get under way at 7.30pm.
Note that the December meeting is a week early owing to the Christmas festivities looming shortly afterwards.

Explorers Rifle Club
SATURDAY at Lockhart we had our Electronic Target Supplier Ozscore on site to test an upgrade to our Target computers and communications system. The new monitors are excellent. Much larger and full colour plus high brightness so you can see it clearly in direct sunlight.
We did have a few hiccups with communications which appeared to be related to lightning in the area which caused the occasional missed shot. We will check this out next weekend and hopefully it will be all good.
The shoot was scheduled as 700 Yards but we tested the targets at 300 Yards. Conditions were quite readable though changing as storm clouds moved through.
Next weekend we will shoot 700 Yards or possibly 1000 Yards depending on conditions to fully test the system at long range.
Christmas Party is on the 16th January so if you can let Scott or Graham know numbers by next weekend that would be helpful.

- F Class Neville Lyons-FO-170.10, David Xuereb-FO-167.5, Graham Crowe-FS-158.1, John Smoothy-FS – 145.6, Paul Golden-FS-1127.2. (Out of 180)

ORIENTEERING
BRIOHNY Seaman and Joannah McDougall excelled in Event 1 of the WaggaRoos 2017-18 Summer Series of Orienteering last Thursday evening.
Starting in the Victory Memorial Gardens participants had 30 minutes to find the answers to as many questions possible about features around the Gardens and Civic precinct.
Points were awarded for finding a correct answer and points were deducted for exceeding the time limit.
Questions included extracting dates or names from various monuments and plaques, identifying a specific plant in the sensory garden, and counting specific items in particular locations.
Briohny Seaman, Alex Davey and Trent Seaman all managed to answer all 38 questions correctly within the allotted time and earn the maximum 300 points.
Briohny did it fastest and was therefore declared the winner. Her time of 18.37 was almost seven minutes quicker than that of Alex and just over 10 minutes quicker than Trent.
WaggaRoos junior Joannah McDougall just failed to obtain maximum points but nonetheless had a terrific run to finish fourth with an excellent 280 points.
She just edged out the Izzy Hutchinson, Chantelle Dailey pairing and Michelle Ky who all scored 260 points and all of whom did very well in their first orienteering event of this format.
