Former Deputy Prime Minister Tim Fischer has reminded people to take care around level crossings with a large number of grain trains operating across the region.
“I’ve observed 16 grain trains – possibly a record – down near Boree Creek,” Mr Fischer said.
“The sudden move of grain by rail from Boree and Milbrulong via Junee to Port Kembla is most welcome.
“However, people need to be alert, with a train scheduled at 4am on Sunday coming from The Rock to Boree Creek.”
As a patron of the Track Safe Foundation, Mr Fischer helped campaign to boost level crossing safety and added the three bridges installed on the Boree Creek branch line had survived two big floods and remained available for tourism most of the time.
