Lisa Hill dedicated most of her life to hairdressing, leaving much more than a stylish cut behind for the Wagga community.

A hairdresser across the Riverina for more than 40 years, Mrs Hill lost her brave three year battle with ovarian cancer in July last year.

Now, her former colleagues are banding together to host a fundraiser to continue Mrs Hill’s legacy, washing and blow drying hair for a donation.

Lisa’s Rainbow Day will be held on the anniversary of Mrs Hill’s death, helping to raise awareness and funds for ovarian cancer.

Mrs Hill’s daughter, Anna Worland, said her mother would be watching on and feeling “amazed by the love”.

“She was obviously a very special part of our lives but to know other people were touched by her and are carrying on her passion is amazing,” Mrs Worland said.

“To have a hairdressing touch to it will take away some of the sadness and create some positive energy.”

Having owned and managed several salons in the Riverina, Mrs Hill was well known to the community.

“While she was sick and going through chemo she still never let her clients down,” Mrs Worland said.

“She pushed through even when she was feeling quite ill.”

Organisers have sent out invitations to Ms Hill’s long-time clients but have welcomed the wider community to make a booking.

“It would just be heart warming and uplifting to see the room filled for her,” Mrs Worland said.

“Mum would have wanted us to focus on some sort of happiness.”

The decision to call the event Rainbow Day was an easy one, after the family noticed a significant amount of “extravagant” rainbows after her passing.

“Before she passed, mum made everyone aware she would visit in rainbows,” Mrs Worland said.

“Ovarian cancer is a silent, horrid killer.”

Lisa’s Rainbow Day will be held at Wagga's Dakota Hair and Beauty salon on July 18.
