Spurred by a movement inspired by blogger Constance Hall, Wagga’s Salli Yates and Jamie Mintern have made their stance as strong, independent women – permanently.
The best friends are sporting new crown tattoos on their wrists as an homage to blogger Hall, who refers to her followers as queens.
“She helped me accept that I wasn’t alone … she made it OK to be who I am,” Mrs Yates said.
“Being a queen to me means celebrating peoples differences and embracing people for who they are,” Mrs Mintern said.
The friends have been following Hall for a while and noticed an increasing number of women getting crown tattoos.
Mrs Yates posted a photo of hers and Mrs Mintern’s tattoos to Hall’s Facebook page.
Mrs Yates struggled through an impressive 100 kilogram weight loss but has emerged to accept herself as worthy.
“I always struggled to be what society says we should be,” she said.
In the week since getting the tattoos, both women have been approached by others who were eager to start a conversation about its meaning.
Mrs Yates said her crown represented courage, unity and strength and she encourages other women to embrace the positive aspects in their lives.
