The students, from the Acacia class, wrote a book called Rad Reece to the Rescue as just one part of a year-long investigation into waste, recycling and the environment.
So seriously did the students take their studies that they conducted a – very messy – “audit” of the rubbish dumped into the school’s bins.
The class took a hands-on approach by visiting Kurrajong Recycling to see where their waste goes and took part in two workshops which were organised by Wagga City Council,.
The students developed games, activity sheets and posters and then took the idea one step further, by penning the book about Rad Reece and his battle against nemisis Larry Landfill.
Wagga City Council has bought 30 copies of Rad Reece to the Rescue! for primary school libraries.
The Sturt students, meanwhile, are beginning a composting project in 2018.
