Built in 1910, the home was once Wagga’s first maternity hospital and features period details such as leadlight doors, 12-foot pressed metal ceilings and decorative arches.
Purchased for $560,000 in 2007, the vendors have carried out extensive renovations and the classic home now features two double garages, a restored claw-foot bath and outdoor entertaining area.
Mr Lowry said there had been a strong market for renovated homes in central Wagga, which regularly fetched prices in the million-dollar range.
“This is location-driven, a lot of people like the convenience of being close to shopping and medical facilities,” he said. “No doubt there are houses out there worth more that aren’t being listed for sale either.”
Central was considered one of the city’s premium suburbs and Mr Lowry said people were prepared to pay extra to get into streets like Fox and Thorne. However, he predicted nearby streets would also attract higher prices in the near future.
For those who can’t quite afford the high price tags of central, Turvey Park and parts of Kooringal were widely-tipped to grow in value as renovators and investors sought to secure good homes close to the CBD.
