So if you are going to Blowering with the boat, there may be times when you are asked to be off the water during the day, same as last time. The water is not closed you can still fish it; you may just need to have a little break at certain times. The weather isn’t looking to good to be going really fast on water but hopefully all the planets line up and they get to have a red hot crack at it.

The National Carp Control Plan (NCCP) team will be hosting an information evening for Wagga residents at the Mecure Hotel Morgan Street this Wednesday, November 22 to discuss carp control options, focusing on the use of a species-specific virus known as Cyprinid herpes virus 3 (the carp virus) as a bio-control agent.

The evening will provide residents with an opportunity to contribute feedback on the proposed plan and to ensure risks associated with carp bio-control are identified and mitigated. The NCCP is tasked with procuring and coordinating the research, planning, and community consultation necessary to enable the Australian Government to make well-informed decisions on carp control in late 2018. This one is for the salt water fishermen, NSW Fisheries or Department of Primary Industries are in the process of replacing the FADs (Fish Aggregating Device) along the East Coast of Australia after removing them for cleaning and maintenance over Winter, there are a total of 30 FADs along the East Coast with nine south of Sydney and they finish up around Merimbula.

These are great for recreational fishermen as the highly sort after mahi mahi, dolphin fish or dollies love these devices with 95 per cent of the fish caught off these things are this species. Don’t ever overlook anything floating in the water be it a fish trap float, floating seaweed or anything largish as these fish are attracted to these as well, throw a couple of soft plastics at these and you may get lucky.

TANTANGARA has been the fishiest of the local impoundments over the past couple of weekend’s with some very good numbers being recorded even with the wind and rain last weekend (I must say that in Wagga we got the wind but not the rain) you could only manage part of the day on the water and after lunch it was R&R on the bank. At Blowering and Burrinjuck the water turned very nasty with around metre-plus waves which did damage a couple of boats that were unable to get off the water in time and I also know that Maritime escorted some late comers back to make sure they made it home safely as well.

Cod season and the Christmas holidays are fast approaching – so don’t put off getting the boat, motor, trailer serviced or at least checked out before they are upon us as it is a very busy time and you may just be disappointed and especially don’t forget about servicing your inflatable PFDs, if they are not serviced annually and they haven’t been signed off it basically means that you don’t have a PFD in your boat or on your person – depending where you are and how you are fishing -  and the fine is a lot more than the cost of a service.
