I’D LIKE to say I have been on holidays chasing some big marlin or tuna but that is just a dream at the moment. The truth is that I haven’t been around much the last couple of weekends as I was doing the wedding thing and haven’t really had time to write.

Last week Wayne Lennon held his recreational fishing talk and some good numbers turned out for it and it was very informative and for those that attended. There was a lucky door prize of a couple of OARGEE lures. If you missed it contact Wayne to get some of the guff that was spoken about.
As I mentioned I was lucky enough to attend a couple of weddings over the past couple of weekends and one was in the very picturesque seaside town of Kiama. You would have no idea how hard it was or is to go to the coast without a boat – I did ask about five times if I could take it and unfortunately the answer was always the same – you are NOT going fishing. I even tried the “I will only go for an hour” trick to no avail.
To make matters worse I got up at around 6am on Sunday and went for a walk around the marina and the blow hole, all the while feeling sorry for myself and then there was a bird feeding frenzy around 200 meters off shore, my shoulders just slumped and I said “golly gosh” to myself.
I can understand why Kiama was the town of choice for the Wagga business – whose name eludes me right at this moment – who used to teach scuba diving and that was where the final test was as the waters were as clear as glass, if I was younger I would probably have a go at running it again.
For those who have been to Kiama marina, the huge stingrays are still camped at the boat ramp and are nearly worth the trip itself. I happened to come across a 1900 Blue Water Tournament (big brother of our boat) with all my stickers over it and it turned out to be one I sold about six years ago to a bloke in ACT I think who had sold it to a resident who lived around the corne. The new owner obviously likes the boat as it looks as good today as when I first sold it.
FISHING AROUND
- HAD a few mates/customers come in who have been fishing in all sorts of different places around the Riverina with good success.
- Burrinjuck has been producing some nice yellas. One customer, who actually got married in Mulwala with boats as wedding vehicles, went for a fish the morning of the wedding and landed a couple of nice yellas.
- The river has been fishing really well with good numbers, mainly on bait, even though the water temp is still a bit low.
- The South Coast has been pretty quiet on the tuna side of things. Most fish being caught out very wide – 60 plus miles – think I will wait till they come in a bit closer. Plenty of snapper and flatties around and hopefully the kingies will appear late November.
