October 14: On Saturday a small group of Explorers members shot at Lockhart for the 800 Yards Trophy Match. Great conditions with a light breeze that dropped off every now and to drop bullets outside the bull. John Dixon kicked off with a great 90.9 in F Open. Also Phil Bain shooting match rifle put in two possible’s. In Target Rifle Dave Xuereb and Scott Brindley had a close tussle finishing in a tie. Trophy was won by John Dixon.

Earlier this month some members journeyed to Coonabarabran for the Ultra Long Range Challenge at 1500 Yards. Phil Bain won the Match Rifle Open Class. Dave Xuereb won the Match Rifle Reserve Grade. John Dixon and Neville Lyons came third and fourth respectively in Open Class.
Sunday was the Cootamundra Prize Meeting attended by Hubert Hassall, John Dixon, Rob Jeffery, D Grentell and Scott Brindley. The range looked a picture and it was terrific weather. A great day on the range and as always we were well fed at lunch time by the ladies in the kitchen. All shot well with Scott Brindley coming third in Target Rifle which was won by Rob Sweegers from Lyndhurst.
Results: Target Rifle: Dave Xuereb TRA -146.12, Scott Brindley TRA – 146.12. (Out of 150). F Class: John Dixon-FO-173.14, Neville Lyons-FO-165.6, John Smoothy-FS-133.2. (Out of 180). Match Rifle Phil Bain–150.15 (Out of 150).
October 21: A warm spring date greeted club members with the early risers doing some testing at 500 yards. New member, Wayne Grentell, tried out his new toy and put in a top score 50.8 at the short range. After the mornings shoot some mowing was completed and following lunch members moved to 900 yards to get a dose of humility as the wind strengthened but also changed direction with dire results for those not on the ball.
Neville Lyons using his F Open rifle was first to make an impression and his score of 83 was not to be bettered. Likewise on the second stage he shot another 83 to get one hand on the FO Championship cup and with one range to go at 1000 yards next week he might be safe especially if we keep getting similar conditions. Wayne shot well in the first stage but not as good as at 500 so in finding out just how much the wind effects the fall of the shot. Visitor Dave Brown shot well under a coach and was impressed at how tight the groups can be at very long ranges as demonstrated by Phil Bain who was very consistent with his match rifle. Next weekend is a working bee from 10am then a 1000 Yard shoot.
