A decent crowd of thousands lit up the Murrumbidgee Turf Club with a hive of activity at the weekend as part of the annual Wagga Picnic Races, despite the falling attendee numbers in previous years.

People travelled far and wide for the event as rays of sunlight lit up elegant frocks adorned on the field while the sound of galloping horses filled the air.
Picnic races chief executive officer Scott Sanbrook said although there weren’t as many numbers as the previous years, the event still went off with a bang.
“We had a sizeable crowd of about 1800 people,” he said.
“It wasn’t as big as the 2015 race where we had about 2500 people walk through the gates but we still kept on with the day’s activities.
“There was a diverse turn out of people from across the region and plenty of entertainment and face painting for the kids and families.”
The picnic races are on the first Saturday of October every year in support of local charity, Country Hope.
