It is believed a second location, this time along Estella Road, is being considered in addition to a lot at the corner of Avocet and Rainbow drives.
A number of questions about the proposed school, including proposed locations and whether it would mean the closure of North Wagga Public School, were asked of planning staff at the meeting earlier this week.
The Daily Advertiser put several questions to council and the Department of Education about the meeting, which an education spokesman was quick to respond to.
“There are no plans to close North Wagga Public School,” he said.
“The Department of Education is currently investigating options for a suitable site for the location of the new primary school in Wagga, which was announced through the School Infrastructure NSW website. As part of this planning, the department is consulting with Wagga City Council.”
A council spokesman said the preliminary discussions were about the “northern growth area” and council would work to “ensure the best outcome for the community”.
North Wagga Residents' Association president Dan Grentell welcomed the confirmation that the school would be safe, but warned any future move to close the school would be met with fierce opposition.
“If they tried to close our school they’d have a fight on their hands,” Mr Grentell said. “It’s just going to get bigger out here and a new school could only take so many students.”
