The two schools have come together to celebrate NAIDOC week with an annual game of mixed leaguetag.
Ashmont prevailed 3-2 over Red Hill in an exciting first rendition of the game, and will hold the trophy, an indigenous message stick crafted by The Men’s Shed in Wagga, for the next 12 months.
Ashmont Public School principal Jodie Jones said the concept was a winner in it’s inaugural year.
“It was a close game and very exciting,” Jones said.
“We had a good crowd to our first game in what we hope will be a longstanding tradition between the two schools to celebrate NAIDOC week.
“There was fierce competition but the sportsmanship and mateship of the two schools was really wonderful to see. They all encouraged each other on.
“It was a really uplifting experience for the boys and girls of both teams.”
The game was played between stage two (years three and four) girls and boys.
Jones wished to thank Ashmont Public’s Josh Jones for making the concept a reality, and Peter Little for refereeing the game and helping the kids.
