A Wagga resident for more than half her life, Mrs Hillier turned 100 on Friday and was joined by a whopping five generations of descendants to mark the milestone.
The past 100 years have seen difficult times and personal tragedy for Mrs Hillier.
She’s lived through the Great Depression and World War II, as well as the devastating loss of her eldest son in an accident when he was just 36. But the bubbly centenarian doesn’t hold a bitter bone in her body. Ms Hillier said being kind to people is the key to a long and happy life.
Mrs Hillier volunteered as a cook for Meals on Wheels for over 20 years. She is fiercely independent and continues to live at home with the help of BaptistCare.
Mrs Hillier’s descendants include eight children, 23 grandchildren, 45 great-grand children and 17 great-great-grandchildren, many of whom travelled from as far as Queensland for the party.
