More than 5000 people poured through the gates of what was a “record day”, supporting the city’s disability services and support agency.
The focus was on families, fun and fillies with something for everyone at Wagga’s MTC.
Kurrajong Foundation manager Cathie Smith said “glorious weather” ensured a social and financial win for everyone involved.
“The real winners today are the people with a disability and how this will benefit them,” Ms Smith said.
“We work on the formula that if the children are having a good day then so will the parents.”
While the crowds enjoyed relaxing in the sun, Ms Smith said hundreds of volunteers showed the true spirit of Kurrajong.
“It was a nice day to see the youngest generation volunteering, from high school students to scouts,” Ms Smith said.
“The sheer amount of volunteers really hit me this year and it makes you feel so proud.”
It was the first year at the races for Junee mother Katie Smallmon who said she loved “any excuse to dress up”.
“It’s great to be here to support such an amazing cause,” Ms Smallmon said.
Ms Smith said the amount raised was yet to be determined.
