The Wagga Country Club was a hive of activity late last month when rising star Jordan Zunic beat a quality field to win the Wagga Pro-Am.
PGA NSW-ACT tournament coordinator Peter Welden travelled to Wagga and is confident the event will continue to enhance it’s reputation as the state’s premier Pro-Am.
“It was all fairly positive. The club has been looking to make things better, which is great for an event like that,” Welden said.
“I went around a lot on Friday and the crowds out there were fantastic, which was good. It was probably one of the best fields we’ve had there as well, which is great.”
Welden believes the quality of this year’s field will only help attract similar line-ups in years to come.
“When we get that sort of field, other players pick up on it that there must be something about it,” he said.
“The calibre of winner gives the event a little bit more to it. Obviously Jordan is one of our best up-and-coming golfers and when a player like him comes out and wins an event, players tend to notice a little bit as well.”
Welden was also strong in his praise for the Wagga Pro-Am committee, as well as the condition of the course.
“The committee did a fantastic job from the junior clinic and the dinner on Wednesday right through. The players get well looked after,” he said.
“The course is the best I’ve seen it for a while, which was an added bonus. Brenton (Morey) did an amazing job.”
