GREAT progress at our working bees over the last three weeks. Thanks to all those who have assisted. Neville’s 25m barrier wall at 600 Yards is now complete. Thanks to Paul also. Dave’s new awning has the structure up. New roofing to go on next. Then concrete and awnings. Thanks to John and Phil who also assisted. Scott’s new Mantlet timber retaining wall is now in place. Thanks to Noel, Paul, Graham and Neville. We also took delivery of our new ride on mower. Thanks to the financial assistance of the Lockhart Bendigo Bank. Saturday’s shoot was at 300 Yards in light wind conditions with the mirage flicking from left to right on occasions. Rob Jeffery’s through the gauntlet down early with an incredible 90.15 perfect score on his first stage in F class - this came up for much debate later! But there were other good scores too Spencer got a 89.8 and Graham a 89.5.

WAGGA SSAA
WAGGA again hosted a very successful fly weekend. To attempt to hit a fly, roughly the size of a postage stamp at 500m is not for the faint hearted. The Deehan family made it look easy with Tracy winning light gun and Paul winning heavy gun. The first ever husband and wife couple to take out the light/heavy double and finishing first and second overall; history has been made. Les Fraser shot a potential heavy gun national record of 0.887 inch. At 300m on Sunday custom class went to Peter VanMeurs with a new club daylight record of 297 and 15 flies (possible 300). Factory class went to new local fly shooter Adam Browne.
Saturdayl is shotgun from 1.30pm. Sunday is rimfire field and silhouette from 10am. For more info ssaawagga.org.au or Don on 6926 3757.

ORIENTEERING
WAGGAROOS’ Debbie Davey had a massive weekend winning the ACT Sprint Championship and ACT Middle Distance Championship in the W60 class. The Sprint Championship was held at Canberra Grammar School and required quick thinking to choose the best option s between the buildings and gardens. Debbie had a near perfect run to win the 1400m course by a solid 21 seconds from Sydney’s Karin Heffner. WaggaRoos Lachlan Billett (W16) also ran very well to finish fourth. The Middle Distance Championship was held at Isaacs Ridge south of Canberra. Debbie dominated the2.7km race winning by almost 4 minutes from Terrigal’s Hilary Wood. Lachlan Billett was 7th in the M16 race.
On the local scene Albury just edged out WaggaRoos in the second of the Interclub Challenge events. In the Interclub Challenge points are allocated according to places on each course for an equal number of competitors from each club. Conducted at Pomingalarna WaggaRoos were given a good start when Ashleigh Crossett won the 1800m Easy course ahead of her sister Eloise and Albury’s Michelle and Lucy Wilson. This gave Wagga a slight two points to one lead. Albury soon evened the ledger when Emma Flower romped home on the 2800m Moderate course well ahead of the WaggaRoos Matthews family. Emma’s win tied the score at three-all. Albury took control on the 4.2km Hard course when Rick Armstrong (A) just edged out Iain Crossett by a mere four seconds. Then when Liz Wood (A) finished ahead of Wes Campbell(W) Albury edged ahead 9:7.
Despite an error late in the race Matt Flower(A) did enough to win the 6.4km Hard course by 6 minutes from Tony Perrott (A) and Rob Simmons (A). WaggaRoos had no competitors on the course so no points were allocated. Although Albury won the day 9:4 after two events WaggaRoos still lead the Interclub Challenge 41:27. The third event in the Interclub Challenge will be on Saturday 13 May at Walbundrie.
The next local event is Sunday at 10 am from near the Music Bowl at Willans Hill.

Ulysses
WE HAD a very disappointing attendance for the March Branch meeting so it looks as though office bearers for 2017 – 2018 will come from the floor at the April meeting on the 18th. We will be hosting a barbecue tea that night too from 6.30pm. What a doozy of a storm we had last Wednesday and three of our members were dodging around the Riverina. They had left Billy’s at around 9.15am after much discussion about the weather and ended up at the Australian Hotel in Young for lunch. And that is where the rot set in. With the pitter patter of rain on the roof big Trev dashed outside and gathered up hats, gloves and jackets before they became saturated. After consuming some tucker the three adventurers looked skyward and saw big black clouds in all directions but Temora direction didn’t look so bad and the decision to go that way was made. Even then they did manage to get a bit damp but if they had come back through Cootamundra it would have been a drowning. What a lovely day!
Saturday saw a dozen at Billy’s for the usual gas-bag session and it was very pleasant out in the fresh Gurwood Street air. I visited Peter Meiklejohn, in hospital and he seemed much improved (and as I pen this publication Monday, he is on his way home). Sunday was not and official ride day but it was a beautiful day and I am aware of two or three taking advantage of the good weather and getting out to wear the rubber off on the Tar. Sunday is the next ride day and at this stage the destination is yet to be decided. Just rock up to McDonalds at 8.30am and be ready to go somewhere. For those going to the AGM in Port Macquarie be reminded that the early bird booking fee cuts out on April 7 and no more bookings will take place for tent city after April 28. Dates for the AGM are from May 22 to May 28.
