The event was conducted at 9-Mile Hill, an open bushland reserve near Albury, which has interesting contour detail created by former quarrying activities overlaid with some challenging rocky terrain.
Courses criss-crossed the three main hills in the area and emphasised the need to navigate by the coarse contours rather than try to work out all the intricacies of the diggings and rocks.
In the Interclub Challenge points are awarded according to placings on each course for an equal number of participants from each club.
WaggaRoos did the damage on the 4.5km Hard Course by having four orienteers finish before the first Albury orienteer.
Briohny Seaman had a great run whipping around the course in a very quick 37.02.
This was more than four minutes ahead of second placegetter Rod Gray from the Eureka Orienteers in Ballarat.
WaggaRoos Lachlan Billett, Debbie Davey and John Oliver then finished in quick succession just ahead of Albury’s Leigh Privett appeared.
WaggaRoos won the course 26.10.
Albury’s Peter Mousley then won the 3.1km Hard course easily from club mates Rick Armstrong and Hugh Cameron.
Dale Clegg was the only WaggaRoo representative on this course and finished fourth so Albury took the points for this course 2.1.
WaggaRoo Iain Crossett powered around the 2.9km Moderate course to win quite comfortably, finishing almost eight minutes ahead of Albury’s Willinck family groups who filled the minor places.
Kath Oliver, the second WaggaRoo on this course, finished in seventh place which meant the points on this course were shared 5-all.
On the 2.2km Easy Course seven-year-old WaggaRoo Ashleigh Crossett had a terrific run to finished two minutes ahead of 10-year-old Nick Mousley from Albury to secure a 2.1 point advantage for this course and give WaggaRoos a resounding 34.18 win for the day.

Ulysses
WEDNESDAY last week saw a small contingent sail up into the mountains and when Les had to return home from Tumut, due to a prior commitment, Dean and Fred headed up to Cabramurra.
Unfortunately coming down from Cabramurra toward Tumbarumba the front of Fred’s bike washed out on a bend and he ended up skating on the bitumen.
He spent the night in Tumbarumba Hospital nursing a couple of broken ribs and was transferred to Wagga the next day.
By all accounts he is doing Ok.
It has been a quiet week with just the usual happenings like Meet and Greet.
Sunday just gone was not an official ride day but I do know one or two ventured out.
I don’t know what the go was but there was a swag of bikes at the Gumly Service Centre on Saturday morning (mostly Harleys).
Our next branch meeting is on Tuesday, March 21 and there is a ride scheduled for Sunday, March 19 leaving from McDonald’s car park at 9am.
The Ulysses Club Inc AGM will be held in Port Macquarie in the last week of May so get organised if you intend going.
We have had some great events over the years and Wagga hosted the National AGM in the mid-nineties but didn’t go down well in history with six Harleys being stolen from motels that week.
Since then we have been to Mount Gambier (2002), Mudgee in 2003, Geelong 2004, where my helmet fell into the ocean off the jetty where we were parked.
Canberra in 2005 was spoilt by a militant venue and interference from an Outlaw Motor Cycle Club.
In 2006 we sailed across to Ulverston in Tassie and the next year it was up to Coffs Harbour.
In 2008 we had a great ride up to Townsville and in 2009 it was a bit closer to home in Penrith with a huge turn out.
2010 saw a large contingent head over to Albany, in WA, while I spent a couple of weeks in Kalgoorlie Hospital nursing a slightly bent leg, but my mates rang each day at 5:00pm to tell me the bar was open.
Newcastle was next, then Mildura followed by Maryborough (Qld) in 2013.
In 2014 we had a terrific trip to Alice Springs, taking three weeks for the journey and staying in some interesting accommodation.
This was followed in 2015 with a trip to Wodonga but that didn’t take anywhere near three weeks.
And Last year was back to Tassie with the event being held at Launceston.
I think the record attendance was at Coffs Harbour with over 6000 in 2007.
So you see we do have some fun so come along and join us in our escapades around this great country.
