Still all gave it their best. There was a good roll up of 12 shooters including two new shooters.
Prior to the shoot we tried out a demo BobCat ride on mower. The grant we have received from the Lockhart Community Bendigo Bank will help us buy a decent mower for the range.

Ulysses
WHAT a great day it was last week when four of us took off for Coolamon to meet up with a small contingent from Griffith. We left Wagga at about 9.15am and motored over to Temora then to Ariah Park and finally Coolamon, arriving at 11.15am.
The MIA group turned up two or three minutes later and we all converged on the cheese factory for a coffee, a snack and a chat. The cheese factory is a great venue with great coffee and some tasty snacks. Having dealt a blow there the Griffith mob had to be home by 3pm, so we all departed with two of our members heading the Griffith way, peeling off at Grong Grong and coming home through Currawarna. Fred and I came straight back on the Coolamon Road as we both had jobs to do back home.
It was a very pleasant day with ideal weather.
Saturday saw another good roll up at Billy’s for Meet and Greet and I am sure the problems of the world were solved while sipping a hot coffee and chewing on a fresh bun.
On Sunday there was an excellent turn out for the scheduled ride, with out destination.
However, Mick soon sorted that out and 12 people on nine bikes left Maccas at 9am and following is Mick’s report: “Good turn out today for the Ulysses Wagga Sunday Ride, nine bike and three pillions.
The destination was Beechworth but before that a coffee break at Jindera at the Fox and Brew on the way through. Nice coffee but I think the girls at The Fox & Brew were a little overwhelmed by the sudden influx but handled it quite well, thanks ladies.
Then off to Beechworth via Lavington and Wodonga. Huh … I did cop some flack for the route I chose but wanted our group to experience, and hey, isn’t that what it’s all about.
Anyway lunch at the Hotel Nicholas was good and the members in the group who have a particular sweet tooth got to experience the ice cream shop on the way back to where we parked the bikes.
After re-fuelling, back on the road and up to Bellbridge, along the Murray River Road across Wymah ferry, Holbrook and home. Don’t know how many k’s we did and it doesn’t matter, a good day was had by all.” (Mick Ellis) I had a phone call from one of the riders who enjoyed the day out and he said “It was the best Ulysses ride he has been on for a long time.” So that is good news.
Also mentioned was the welcome that was afforded the group at the Hotel Nicholas in Beechworth, the publican went out of his way to please everyone and the food was extra good too.
The first meeting of the year was held last night and we will give some more details of that next week owing to the fact The Leader is getting printed as we meet.
Our next ride will be on March 5 and as yet a destination has not been decided.
If you have any ideas on a great ride give Mick a call on 0400 468 464, tell him I sent you.
Remember these times- all Wednesday rides leave Billy’s Café at 9am. All Sunday rides leave McDonald’s Edward Street car park at 9am and Meet & Greet at Billy’s is from 10am each Saturday.
And don’t forget to register for the AGM at Port Macquarie in May.
Cut off time for Tent City is April 28.
For any further information regarding the Ulysses Club Inc phone head office in Narellan on 1300 134 123 or you may ring me on 0408 420 766. Ride safe and enjoy the outing.
WAGGA SSAA
ON SATURDAY Garry Moore was a clear winner in black powder from Mark Wheeler and Eddie Witt. On Sunday 20 shooters contested the 100-y group shoot. Winds were twitchy and the mirage kept the mothball moving but the standard was high getting down to sixteenth place overall before the agg went over the magic inch.
In custom class it was Don Ewin on 0.3388 from Paul Deehan (0.3834) and Barry Wilde (0.5306). In factory class it was Rob Cheetham on 0.4826 from Brad Treddrea (0.6774) and Alan Constable very close on 0.6778.
The standout performance for the day was new junior Lilly Reed in her second comp appearance and first centrefire match.
She shot three targets around half an inch and one barely an inch only to have the last one get away from her for 2.8xx, however she still finished with a credible agg barely over an inch.
Enough to make more than one experienced shooter think, the girl has a future in target shooting. Sunday 26 is a rimfire 50-y score match. For more info ssaawagga.org.au or Don on 6926 3757.

ORIENTEERING
ALEX Davey won event eight in WaggaRoos Summer Series of Orienteering last Thursday evening.
Starting near the Civic Theatre, Darren Kupke set a great little course around the civic precinct and Victory Memorial Gardens. There were several spots where competitors had to choose the most efficient way to navigate around the buildings and barriers to take the next group of controls. Most participants were able to complete the course and collect the full 200 points well within the 30 minute time limit despite the warm conditions. Alex Davey did it the fastest finishing in a quick 16:43. He was followed closely by John Oliver (17:13) with Kade Mavroudis (19:58) and Rod Gray (20:22) not far off the pace. Wes Campbell won the handicap honours for the event.
The penultimate event in the Summer Series of Orienteering is at 6pm on Thursday, February 23 from the corner of Walana and Cooinbil Crescents, Kooringal.
Results: Alex Davey 200 points (16:43); John Oliver 200 (17:13); Kade Mavroudis 200 (19:58); Rod Gray 200 (20:22); Wes Campbell 190; Julie Gooding & Jarrah 50.
