Mr Chappell broke both fibula bones at the ankle in an accident on December 13.
The independent painting contractor cannot bear weight on his feet for at least three months and his mind immediately went to panic for his pending jobs.
But tradesmen have come to Mr Chappell’s aid to ensure his contracts are not lost and the work is completed.
Up to 12 local companies have donated tradesmen, supplies and time to help finish two units on Fitzmaurice Street.
“I was a bit overwhelmed by it all,” he said.
Allan Turner from Inspirations Paint has been selling to Mr Chappell for years.
“Pete is not just a customer but a friend,” he said.
“When you hear someone has a bit of bad luck, you lend a hand.
“On the drop of a hat, some of these guys are down there with only 24 hours notice.
“It’s a testament to the tradies down there doing the job.”
