The owners of Little Triffids Florist, the only florist in Wagga to grow its own flowers, have a couple of hundred species of flowers to keep alive each year.
Farmer/florist Mrs Kurylowicz grows the blooms in her North Wagga backyard and has instilled measures to ensure they beat the heat
Mrs Kurylowicz carefully selected plants that could sustain a Wagga summer and has installed a drip irrigation system and mulched her gardens to ensure they retain water.
“I’ve got a slightly larger water bill than normal … but it’s what I choose to spend my money on,” she said.
The temperature reached 40.7 degrees on Tuesday, the second time it has exceeded 40 degrees in a week and since last February.
Temperatures are expected to hover around the mid 30s for the rest of the week with rain predicted for the end of the week.
