“There are always people doing it tougher than others, but those families and kids deserve to have a great Christmas, too,” Mr Longmore said.

Mr Longmore, other members of South Wagga Apex, Masons and volunteers from several charities will be out collecting food put into bags on Sunday.

“We are encouraging people who want to donate food to put the yellow bags that were put in their mailbox recently on their front fence or verandah before 9am on Sunday,” Mr Longmore said.

“Put them where our volunteers can see them.”

If anyone has lost their yellow bag they can still donate by putting food in their own bag or box and making the donation obvious for collectors.

Between 700 and 800 households supported the Leader food appeal last year, and Mr Longmore is hoping for a big response for this Christmas.

The donated food will be distributed by charities.
