It was very blustery at Lockhart on Saturday. Despite the strong and changing winds, we decided to continue with the 1000 yards as planned.
Everyone suffered in the challenging conditions as the strong wind changed from 3 o’clock to 7 o’clock.
It was certainly a day that left everyone struggling. Hopefully conditions will be better next week at 300 yards.
Results from Lockhart as follows:
Target Rifle Scott Brindley-A-80.1, Jeremy Westblade-B-67.1, David Xuereb-A-64.2
F Class Graham Crowe-FS-92, Chris Veness-FS-87.1, Josie Veness-FS-77, John Dixon-FS-76.1, John Smoothy-FO-44, Paul Golden-FS-62.
Optical Phil Bain – 99.14
Next week we will shoot 300 yards. Hopefully it will be a little easier than this weekend.
Members holding trophies from last year could you please return these in readiness for the Christmas party?
Ulysses
The midweek warriors had a good ride last week in ideal weather; weather we can expect to savour over the next few months, and I understand that Noah has ceased his ship building activities for the time being.
Half a dozen riders from Wagga headed over to Ariah Park and met up with a small contingent of eight from Griffith. Morning refreshments were taken care of and then the group headed off to Temora where they had lunch.
After lunch, Smithy led them all to Coolamon through all the back roads known to mankind and from Coolamon everyone dispersed and went home.
There was no official ride this last weekend but the weather was perfect and a few small groups shot off around the countryside.
The next organised ride will be to Walwa on November 6 followed by a trip to Talbingo on November 20 and I will give some added details next week.
Saturday saw a good roll-up at Billy’s for meet and greet in very comfortable conditions, and don’t forget the Wednesday rides from Billy’s each week starting at 9am. Sunday rides are from McDonald’s car park in Edward Street, also at 9am.
The Ulysses Club AGM is to be held at Port Macquarie and Wauchope next year from May 22 until May 28. Registrations are now being taken and full details and options are in your latest Riding On magazine or if you have misplaced the magazine you’ll find it all on the club website www.ulysses.org.au.
If you haven’t been to an AGM before try and make this one, they are always a lot of fun and there are always plenty of activities to get involved in. If you want some up-market accommodation I would advise you to sort it out now because it is always in short supply.
Lorraine Lawrence is off on a solo trip, up north for a couple of weeks (she left yesterday) and we wish her well on her journey.
Ride safe, enjoy the vast outdoors and watch out for the myriad of potholes.

ORIENTEERING
WaggaRoos juniors all did very well at the orienteering event conducted at Willans Hill last Sunday.
Starting from the museum in Lord Baden Powell Drive, the courses encompassed the western slopes of Willans Hill.
Track options were favoured because of the long grass and slightly thicker undergrowth made forest running more challenging.
TRAC student Lachlan Billett comfortably won the 5.2km hard course. Riding on the success of being a member of the NSW team that won the Junior Boys Australian Schools Orienteering Relay Championship title conducted last month, Lachlan almost came unstuck at the ninth control.
The marker had caught up in a bush abutting the rock face making it difficult to see. Veteran John Oliver, who had started 30 seconds behind Lachlan, managed to catch up with the young champion and both passed within a metre of the marker before spotting it.
From there, Lachlan literally ran away from John to win the event by a comfortable 3½ minutes, all built up in the last 2km of the race. Debbie Davey also had problems spotting the ninth control marker and finished third.
Another TRAC student, Will Cronk, had a big win on the 1.5km easy course finishing just over 12 minutes ahead of Kath Oliver. Waggajoeys Ryder and Logan Seaman completed the course with their mother to finish third and Jarrah Mestan completed the course with his parents to finish fourth.
Wes Campbell was steady on the 3km moderate course finishing just ahead of the Crossett family.
That was the final bush event for 2016. The WaggaRoos Summer Series of Orienteering will start at 6pm on Thursday, November 24, at French Fields on the Walteela Avenue side.
The 10-event program will be conducted on each Thursday evening in different suburbs of Wagga from November 24 to December 15 and then restart on January 26, 2017, for six weeks. As in previous years, participants will have a choice of a 30-minute or 45-minute time limit to find the answers to questions about the local area.
Points will be awarded for correct answers and deducted for exceeding the time limit. Newcomers are welcome. Instruction is provided. Just wear shoes suitable for a 30-45 minutes walk or jog.
Results: 5.2km Hard Course. Lachlan Billett 56.50; John Oliver 60.53; Debbie Davey 66.20. 3.0km Moderate Course: Wes Campbell 49.50; Iain, Ashleigh, Eloise Crossett 64.16. 1.5km Easy Course: Will Cronk 19.19; Kath Oliver 31.41; Ryder, Logan, Briohny Seaman 39.44; Jarrah, Julie, Eltan Mestan 47.02.
