Shooting
Wagga Field and Game
Well, folks, it has be one hell of a week with heavy rain throughout the week, Saturday didn’t look good for shooting.
With the range setter producing a short range to hopefully dampen the effect of any rain storms that might come our way, we were chasing the clay targets. But we still got wet with water heavy under foot.
The range setter, depending on who you spoke to, had fun setting up as I said it was wet under foot, so driving around was done with great care.
If your vehicle broke surface it was stuck in the soap underneath, hey, Matt and Rick.
The range had some interesting targets but two members were able to come close to the perfect round. Bad luck to Greg and Alan for missing that 25 out of 25
Thirty-five shooters turned up to shoot this being a handicap event here are the results:
AA Grade: winner Greg Newton (3) 72
A Grade: winner Alan Le Poi Devin (6) 72, second Milton Jaeger (9) 70
B Grade: winner Steve Tipping (18) 78, second Gary Byron (15) 73
C Grade: winner Lisa Riley (27) 69

Thanks to Kate for afternoon tea.
Meeting was held on Tuesday night at Sportsman’s Hotel 7pm, meal beforehand (good meals). Range to be set by committee.
Next shoot October 8 – 100 targets with 10am start.

The only dry day for a while happened last Wednesday and Doug, Les and Oscar took a short ride across to Temora through Coolamon.
Lunch at the Round-A-Bout Bakery was up to its usual high standard and after the mandatory banter they headed home, racking up about 230kms for the day.
Oscar was back after a bout of medical treatment and he is back to his old self.
Then the weather reverted back to cold showers, winds and miserability.
Saturday began as a particularly rotten start to the long weekend and the three-day ride was cancelled for the time being.
In spite of the lousy day, we had a very good attendance at the meet and geet on Saturday morning.
It was good to see Alan Tye there back after another session with cancer treatment and I must say he looked very well.
Alan is on an experimental treatment program and at this stage it seems to be on the right track.
And Sunday proved to be a great day with blue sky and fairly warm temperatures so Mick Ellis, Graham Mutton and Ian Adams ventured out – and in Mick’s own words:
“Well … What a magic day for riding motorbike after this long wet winter.
“Graham, Ian and I thought we’d venture up the hills to check out the dams. Well we got to Blowering anyway.
“Headed out to Wantabadgery but as you could imagine the bridge across the river was closed so we head toward Nangus and found some more water but at least passable.
“Up to Tumut to check out Blowering and back down to Tumut for lunch. Back home via the Link road, Westbrook road and Tarcutta.
Just great to be out on the bike in the sunshine.”
Our next ride is the Pink Ribbon ride on Sunday, October 16. Jackie Starr will be in charge and there is an entry fee of $10 per person, which goes to cancer research, as does all other money raised on the day. The day starts at McDonald’s Edward Street Car Park at 9am and will progress to Jugiong for morning tea and other necessary functions.
With that out of the way the next step will be across to Temora for a Pink Ribbon lunch in the park (bring your own sandwiches) and the last sector will be a stop-off at Gary Crabtree’s School House Café in Bethungra, before the last leg home. Fuel is available at all stop off points.
The next branch meeting is on Tuesday, October 18 at the Radio Club Rooms in Small Street. Start is 7.30pm and the doors open at 7pm. Come along and bring a friend or a new prospect to join our ranks, we need some new young blood from the age of 40 and over.
The first ride for November is on the sixth and will take you to Walwa for lunch – more details later.
Meet and greet on Saturday mornings at 10am at Billy’s and Wednesday rides leave Billy’s at 9am with the destination to be decided on the day. If you are going off with a mate or two check the road conditions, a lot of roads are closed.

The vets managed just the one comp round last week when they played their nine-hole stroke event last Monday.
Winner on the day was John Hazell with a score of 27 nett, from John Donohue, Peter Kirkman, Danny McIntyre and Tony Pollard on 29, followed by Phil Powell 31 nett on a c/b from Peter Briggs and Barry Longmore.
Last Tuesday saw the ladies complete the final round of their club championships, which had to be reduced to just three rounds due to the ongoing wet weather. Scratch winners on the day were Janelle Doust 98 (Div 1), Lorraine Hickey110 (Div 2), and Jan Leonard 114 (Div3). Handicap honours went to Lyn Donohoe 84 (Div 1), Sue Matthews 83 (Div 2), and Colleen Mavroudis 81 (Div 3). NTP’s to Jan Marks (Div 1), Lorraine Hickey (Div 2) and Val Brunskill (Div 3).
Well done to 2016 club champion Jo Williams, who was a model of consistency throughout the event. Jo’s 54 hole score of 287 was well clear of runner-up, Monica Kember, 312. In B Grade, the scratch winner was Lorraine Hickey on 329, from Una Pocock 334, while Jan Leonard claimed C Grade scratch honours with a score of 347, from Carmel Pearce, 352.
Jo made it a double by adding the Division 1 handicap trophy to her haul with a nett score of 237, from Cassie Gill, 255. In Division 2, Una Pocock turned the tables on Lorraine Hickey by scoring 250 nett, to Lorraine’s score of 253. Jan Leonard also made it a double by adding the Division 3 handicap event to her scratch prize with a nett score of 235, followed once again by Carmel Pearce on 254.
The Peg Bagley Memorial Trophy winner was Jan Leonard, while the Judy Buchhorn Jug was collected by Jo Williams. Jo topped off a great championships event by adding the Joyce Redman Veterans Jug to her other trophies, while the Joyce Redman Super Veterans Trophy went to Cassie Gill. Congratulations to all the girls who competed in what can only be described as very difficult conditions. Special congratulations once again to Jo Williams for her championship win, and all the other winners over the three rounds.
