It has been 15 years since Relay for Life started in Wagga and the event has seen 19,965 participants relay for family and friends.
“So many people in our community are touched by cancer,” community engagement manager Pip Grant said.
“And it’s not only about the people that we lose but how a diagnosis can impact a whole family.
“Relay for Life is a chance to recognise the struggle that so many people and their carers go through and know that they’re not in it alone.”
There is less than two weeks until this year’s event and 70 teams have already registered with at least another 30 expected to register.
This year’s fundraising has already garnered more than $59,000 of the city’s $160,000 goal.
Wagga’s Relay for Life is one of the biggest events of its kind in the country and Miss Grant said that is evident year after year.
New attractions this year include a cake decorating competition, golf ball drop and three jumping castles as well as the usual food vendors, children’s activities and live entertainment.
Relay for Life will be held at Parramore Park from 10am October 8 until 10am October 9.
Registrations can be made by visiting fundraising.cancer.org.au and searching for the Wagga event.
