Ulysses
They say that if you want a bit of excitement in life go with the Dark Horse. And that is what five of us did. Woody led the charge last week and took us places we had never heard of. We headed down the Old Narrandera Road and took the turn to Matong and about 30 minutes out we suffered a fairly heavy downpour so stopped at Matong to don the wet weather gear. And then the rain stopped and we never saw any more for the rest of the day.

From Matong we crossed the railway line and took the direct route to Ardlethan then the Old London Hill Road to Beckom, where we topped up some tanks. Des was getting nervous as he left with less than a full amount. After Beckom we passed through Ardlethan on the way to Tallimba and from Tallimba to West Wyalong for lunch at the Round About Bakery. After lunch those short on fuel topped up at the Caltex in Wyalong, and from there we headed to Barmedman.
From Barmedman the trip home was a zig-zag through the countryside, up and down little laneways, passing through unheard of whistle stops until we finally arrived at Marrar. We were OK then, we knew where to go and that was home base arriving at about 4pm after wearing another 400ks off the tyres.
Saturday started out fairly miserable but in spite of that we had a really good roll up at Billy’s for Meet and Greet with about 20 in attendance. We tucked away in the back room where it was warm and cosy, had the usual chat and coffee but we were out of there by 11.15am to attend to the day’s chores.
On Sunday we had a great ride with eight on bikes, two on Spyders and half of our ride committee in a Tin Top? Something about (1) a bald tyre and (2) ‘I forgot to register my bike’. We ventured to Temora via Coolamon and Rannock and arriving at Temora went to the bakery for the customary morning tea/coffee where we found about 20 of the Bandidos Motorcycle Club in residence.
What with them and us lined up for sustenance the poor girls peddling the buns and biscuits didn’t know what to make of it all. Next stop was Bribbaree, via Bardmedman, where we had lunch and also met up with about 20 from the Canberra branch. We left Bribbaree at about 2.30, stopped off in Young for fuel and then motored on home through Cootamundra and Junee, where we lobbed at around 5pm.
Our next adventure will be the Tri Branch Weekend at Griffith on September 10, 11 and 12. If you haven’t already done so pick who you want to camp with and ring the Caravan Village on 6962 3785 to book your spot, and mention you are with the Ulysses group for the weekend. Ride safe and stay upright.
